Under German fire they laid communications lines and began sending messages in a form never before heard in Europe?coded Comanche. For the rest of World War II, the Comanche Code Talkers played a vital role in transmitting orders and messages in a code that was never broken by the Germans. This book tells the full story of the Comanche Code Talkers for the first time. Drawing on interviews with all surviving members of the unit, their original training officer, and fellow soldiers, as well as military records and news accounts, William C. Meadows follows the group from their recruitment and training to their active duty in World War II and on through their postwar lives up to the present. He also provides the first comparison of Native American code talking programs, comparing the Comanche Code Talkers with their better-known Navajo counterparts in the Pacific and with other Native Americans who used their languages, coded or not, for secret communication. Meadows sets this history in a larger discussion of the development of Native American code talking in World Wars I and II, identifying two distinct forms of Native American code talking, examining the attitudes of the American military toward Native American code talkers, and assessing the complex cultural factors that led Comanche and other Native Americans to serve their country in this way. 606 $aWorld War, 1939-1945$xCryptography 606 $aWorld War, 1939-1945$xParticipation, Indian 606 $aIndian code talkers 606 $aComanche Indians 606 $aWorld War, 1939-1945$zFrance$zNormandy 615 0$aWorld War, 1939-1945$xCryptography. 615 0$aWorld War, 1939-1945$xParticipation, Indian. 615 0$aIndian code talkers. 615 0$aComanche Indians. 615 0$aWorld War, 1939-1945 676 $a940.54/03 700 $aMeadows$b William C.$f1966-$01520465 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910777446303321 996 $aThe Comanche code talkers of World War II$93759070 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01363nam 2200457 450 001 9910796654603321 005 20230126215834.0 010 $a1-78660-455-8 035 $a(CKB)4100000001039130 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC5119120 035 $a(EXLCZ)994100000001039130 100 $a20171207h20182018 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurcnu|||||||| 181 $2rdacontent 182 $2rdamedia 183 $2rdacarrier 200 10$aRethinking global democracy in Brazil /$fMarkus Fraundorfer 210 1$aLondon, [England] ;$aNew York :$cRowman & Littlefield International,$d2018. 210 4$dİ2018 215 $a1 online resource (250 pages) 311 $a1-78660-454-X 311 $a1-78660-453-1 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references and index. 606 $aDemocracy$zBrazil 606 $aDemocratization$zBrazil 606 $aPolitical participation$zBrazil 607 $aBrazil$xPolitics and government 607 $aBrazil$xSocial policy 615 0$aDemocracy 615 0$aDemocratization 615 0$aPolitical participation 676 $a320.981 700 $aFraundorfer$b Markus$f1983-$01080220 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910796654603321 996 $aRethinking global democracy in Brazil$93811166 997 $aUNINA LEADER 02431nam 22005773u 450 001 9910787634803321 005 20230126210928.0 010 $a1-59332-746-3 035 $a(CKB)2670000000493946 035 $a(EBL)1572845 035 $a(SSID)ssj0001060563 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)12437795 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0001060563 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)11087575 035 $a(PQKB)11449108 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC1572845 035 $a(EXLCZ)992670000000493946 100 $a20131216d2013|||| u|| | 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 10$aAmerican Gun Culture$b[electronic resource] $eCollectors, Shows, and the Story of the Gun 205 $a2nd ed. 210 $aEl Paso $cLFB Scholarly Publishing LLC$d2013 215 $a1 online resource (183 p.) 300 $aDescription based upon print version of record. 311 $a1-59332-621-1 330 $aTaylor's neutral account of U.S. gun culture never loses sight of the fact that guns are all around us. With millions of guns and gun owners, it is imperative that policy and future research pertaining to guns consider the relative cultural and symbolic value that gun owners place on their guns. Taylor's candid, emotional and occasionally funny research explores the symbolic meaning of guns and the ways in which the meaning assigned to guns influences gun ownership and use. Some of his more interesting findings center around conversations with gun collectors and enthusiasts about a series of i 606 $aFirearms$xSocial aspects$zUnited States 606 $aFirearms ownership$xHistory$zUnited States 606 $aFirearms$xCollectors and collecting$zUnited States 606 $aMechanical Engineering$2HILCC 606 $aEngineering & Applied Sciences$2HILCC 606 $aIndustrial & Management Engineering$2HILCC 615 0$aFirearms$xSocial aspects 615 0$aFirearms ownership$xHistory 615 0$aFirearms$xCollectors and collecting 615 7$aMechanical Engineering 615 7$aEngineering & Applied Sciences 615 7$aIndustrial & Management Engineering 676 $a683.4 700 $aTaylor$b Jimmy D$01106345 801 0$bAU-PeEL 801 1$bAU-PeEL 801 2$bAU-PeEL 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910787634803321 996 $aAmerican gun culture$93835517 997 $aUNINA LEADER 02444oas 2200889 a 450 001 9910229329903321 005 20251105213014.0 011 $a1871-0328 035 $a(DE-599)2254876-2 035 $a(OCoLC)77078997 035 $a(CONSER) 2007242019 035 $a(CKB)1000000000222707 035 $a(EXLCZ)991000000000222707 100 $a20061219a20069999 sy a 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurmn||||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aReligion and human rights 210 $aLeiden $cMartinus Nijhoff Publishers 210 3 $aLeiden $cBrill/Nijhoff 215 $a1 online resource 300 $aRefereed/Peer-reviewed 311 08$a1871-031X 517 3 $aRHR 517 3 $aReligion & human rights 606 $aHuman rights$xReligious aspects$vPeriodicals 606 $aFreedom of religion$vPeriodicals 606 $aDroits de l'homme (Droit international)$xAspect religieux$vPe?riodiques 606 $aLiberte? religieuse$vPe?riodiques 606 $aPublications pe?riodiques$2eclas 606 $aDroits de l'homme$2eclas 606 $aLiberte? religieuse$2eclas 606 $aFreedom of religion$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst00934030 606 $aHuman rights$xReligious aspects$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst00963311 608 $aPeriodicals.$2fast 608 $aPeriodicals.$2lcgft 615 0$aHuman rights$xReligious aspects 615 0$aFreedom of religion 615 6$aDroits de l'homme (Droit international)$xAspect religieux 615 6$aLiberte? religieuse 615 7$aPublications pe?riodiques. 615 7$aDroits de l'homme. 615 7$aLiberte? religieuse. 615 7$aFreedom of religion. 615 7$aHuman rights$xReligious aspects. 676 $a341.48 801 0$bOCLCS 801 1$bOCLCS 801 2$bOCLCS 801 2$bMYG 801 2$bOCL 801 2$bMUQ 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bWAU 801 2$bEMI 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bCOO 801 2$bBEDGE 801 2$bEUW 801 2$bOCLCF 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bBUF 801 2$bVT2 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bBWN 801 2$bDLC 801 2$bUBY 801 2$bU3W 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bOCLCL 801 2$bOCLCQ 906 $aJOURNAL 912 $a9910229329903321 996 $aReligion and human rights$91947145 997 $aUNINA
