It addresses a particular disconnect in the current debate on the future of national security strategy and the role of landpower caused by an inadequate examination of the national level of strategy made by the U.S. government. The disconnect exists because there has been no systematic effort to collect and analyze insights from those who have been actively engaged in making policy and strategy from 2001 to 2014. A RAND Arroyo Center workshop provided a mechanism for eliciting insights from policymakers and academic experts involved in the formation of national-level strategy and its implementation over the past 13 years. This study analyzes and develops those insights in the context of the debate on future national security strategy. It applies those insights to the future operating environment, which will include irregular and hybrid threats, and identifies critical requirements for land forces and special operations forces to operate successfully in conjunction with other joint, interagency, and multinational partners."--Publisher's website. 606 $aStrategy$xDecision making$zUnited States 606 $aNational security$xEvaluation 606 $aAfghan War, 2001-2021$xForecasting 606 $aIraq War, 2003-2011 606 $aIntegrated operations (Military science) 606 $aIrregular warfare 606 $aMilitary Science - General$2HILCC 606 $aMilitary & Naval Science$2HILCC 606 $aLaw, Politics & Government$2HILCC 607 $aUnited States$xMilitary policy$xEvaluation 607 $aUnited States$xMilitary policy 607 $aUnited States$xArmed Forces$xStability operations 607 $aUnited States$xStrategic aspects 610 $aJIIM (joint, interagency, integovernmental and multinational)$alessons learned 615 0$aStrategy$xDecision making 615 0$aNational security$xEvaluation 615 0$aAfghan War, 2001-2021$xForecasting 615 0$aIraq War, 2003-2011 615 0$aIntegrated operations (Military science) 615 0$aIrregular warfare 615 7$aMilitary Science - General 615 7$aMilitary & Naval Science 615 7$aLaw, Politics & Government 676 $a355.020973 700 $aRobinson$b Linda$0915162 702 $aCohen$b Raphael S 702 $aGordon$b John$f1956- 702 $aGordon$b John$f1956- 702 $aSchwille$b Michael 702 $aDecker$b Jeffrey 702 $aMiller$b Paul D 702 $aMiller$b Paul D 712 02$aArroyo Center 801 0$bPQKB 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910220116703321 996 $aImproving strategic competence : lessons from 13 years of war$92788778 997 $aUNINA
