But interest in trauma is not new; its roots extend to the Romantic period, when novelists and the first psychiatrists influenced each others' investigations of the »wounded mind«. This book looks back to these early attempts to understand trauma, reading a selection of Romantic novels in dialogue with Romantic and contemporary psychiatry. It then carries that dialogue forward to postmodern fiction, examining further how empirical approaches can deepen our theorizations of trauma. Within an interdisciplinary framework, this study reveals fresh insights into the poetics, politics, and ethics of trauma fiction. 410 0$aLettre (Transcript (Firm)) 517 2 $aSchönfelder, Wounds and Words$eChildhood and Family Trauma in Romantic and Postmodern Fiction 606 $aTrauma 606 $aChildhood 606 $aNovel 606 $aRomanticism 606 $aPostmodernism 606 $aLiterature 606 $aPsychoanalysis 606 $aBritish Studies 606 $aGeneral Literature Studies 606 $aCultural Studies 606 $aLiterary Studies 615 4$aTrauma 615 4$aChildhood 615 4$aNovel 615 4$aRomanticism 615 4$aPostmodernism 615 4$aLiterature 615 4$aPsychoanalysis 615 4$aBritish Studies 615 4$aGeneral Literature Studies 615 4$aCultural Studies 615 4$aLiterary Studies 676 $a823.0093561 700 $aSchönfelder$b Christa$p
