This is similar to the practice of many other cultic associations in the Greco-Roman world of the first century CE. Building upon this new approach, along with a critical interpretation of all available sources, this book discusses the social and religio-historical background of the weekly gatherings of Christians and presents a fresh reconstruction of how the weekly gathering originated and developed in both form and content. The topics studied here include the origins of the observance of Sunday as the weekly Christian feast-day, the shape and meaning of the weekly gatherings of the Christian communities, and the rise of customs such as preaching, praying, singing, and the reading of texts in these meetings. 410 0$aSupplements to Vigiliae Christianae ;$vv. 102. 606 $aReligious gatherings$xChristianity$xHistory 606 $aWorship$xHistory$yEarly church, ca. 30-600 606 $aLord's Supper$xHistory$yEarly church, ca. 30-600 606 $aAgape$xHistory 606 $aSacred meals$zRome$vComparative studies 606 $aChurch history$yPrimitive and early church, ca. 30-600 606 $aReligious gatherings$zRome$vComparative studies 607 $aRome$xReligious life and customs 615 0$aReligious gatherings$xChristianity$xHistory. 615 0$aWorship$xHistory 615 0$aLord's Supper$xHistory 615 0$aAgape$xHistory. 615 0$aSacred meals 615 0$aChurch history 615 0$aReligious gatherings 676 $a264/.3609015 700 $aAlikin$b Valeriy A$0974428 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910169180603321 996 $aThe earliest history of the Christian gathering$92218426 997 $aUNINA
