This text considers the development of intellectual property in China, and offers an interdisciplinary analysis of China's compliance with the TRIPS Agreement using theories originating in international relations and law. It notes that despite significant efforts to amend China's substantive IP laws to prepare for WTO accession and sweeping changes to domestic legislation, a significant gap existed between the laws on paper and as enforced in practice, and that infringements to the agreement are still prevalent. The book examines how compliance with international rules can be promoted and encouraged in a specific jurisdiction. Making a case for a wider, more interdisciplinary and global outlook, it contends that compliance needs to align with the national interests of relevant countries and jurisdictions, as governments' economic interests support the greater enforcement of the IP laws. . 410 0$aPalgrave Series in Asia and Pacific Studies,$x2662-7930 606 $aInformation technology$xLaw and legislation 606 $aMass media$xLaw and legislation 606 $aInternational law 606 $aTrade regulation 606 $aCrime$xSociological aspects 606 $aCulture$xStudy and teaching 606 $aIT Law, Media Law, Intellectual Property 606 $aInternational Economic Law, Trade Law 606 $aCrime and Society 606 $aCultural Studies 615 0$aInformation technology$xLaw and legislation. 615 0$aMass media$xLaw and legislation. 615 0$aInternational law. 615 0$aTrade regulation. 615 0$aCrime$xSociological aspects. 615 0$aCulture$xStudy and teaching. 615 14$aIT Law, Media Law, Intellectual Property. 615 24$aInternational Economic Law, Trade Law. 615 24$aCrime and Society. 615 24$aCultural Studies. 676 $a343.099 700 $aThomas$b Kristie$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$0882563 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910165140103321 996 $aAssessing Intellectual Property Compliance in Contemporary China$91971461 997 $aUNINA
