Following the authoras earlier book on the history of containment of Iran and Iraq, the current book examines closely the Obama Administrationas policy toward Iran, as well as the role played by Israel, the European Union and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in the implementation of this policy. - - Specifically, it is argued that the policy of thtough diplomacy,oe designed mostly by those associated with the Israeli lobby groups, was intended to give an ultimatum to Iran in some direct meetings, telling Iran to either accept the US-Israeli demands or face aggression. The meetings were also intended to create the illusion of engaging Iran in order to gain international support for aggressive actions. Barack Obama announced this policy in his speeches as a Senator, particularly at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee policy conferences. After he became president in 2008, the policy of thaggressive diplomacyoe was put in motion. While pretending to engage Iran in diplomacy, the Obama Administration, in coordination with the US Congress and the government of Israel, pushed for the most confrontational IAEA reports on Iran and an unprecedented set of unilateral and multilateral sanctions. The US and Israel also engaged in a campaign of military threats, sabotage and assassination of Iranian nuclear scientists. Yet, after four years of hostilities, the policy of thtough diplomacyoe failed to achieve many of its goals and failed to contain Iran. - - - 606 $aDiplomacy 607 $aUnited States$xForeign relations$zIran 607 $aIran$xForeign relations$zUnited States 607 $aUnited States$xForeign relations administration 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aDiplomacy. 676 $a327.73055 700 $aFayazmanesh$b Sasan$0240754 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910453752903321 996 $aContaining Iran$92073022 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01737oam 2200457z 450 001 9910164694903321 005 20230328224226.0 010 $a9780803150010 010 $a0803150016 035 $a(CKB)3170000000045342 035 $a(SSID)ssj0001184153 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11634876 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0001184153 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)11196003 035 $a(PQKB)11266438 035 $a(EXLCZ)993170000000045342 100 $a20160829h19871987 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 00$aComputerized quantitative infrared analysis $ea symposium sponsored by ASTM Committee E-13 on Molecular Spectroscopy and Federation of Analytical Chemistry and Spectroscopy Societies (FACSS), Philadelphia, PA, 18 Sept. 1984 /$feditor, Gregory L.
