Eleven of his shorter writings are included in Chinese and in translation. The first part of the book is devoted to a study of Latin Christian apologists within the Roman Empire to provide a comparison for the analysis of Xu Guangqi's work. Minucius Felix, Tertullian and Lactantius are shown to have faced, in regard to imperial power and Graeco-Roman culture, a situation comparable to that of Xu Guangqi, Li Zhizao and Yang Tinqyun in regard to imperial power and culture in the late Ming period. The final chapters of the book reconsider general issues of confrontation and adaptation in the inculturation of Christianity. 410 0$aStudies in Christian Mission$v20. 606 $aApologetics$zChina$xHistory$y17th century 606 $aChristianity and culture$zChina$xHistory$y17th century 606 $aApologetics$xHistory$yEarly church, ca. 30-600 606 $aChristianity and culture$xHistory$yEarly church, ca. 30-600 606 $aApologetics$2fast 606 $aApologetics$xEarly church$2fast 606 $aChristianity and culture$2fast 606 $aChristianity and culture$xEarly church$2fast 607 $aChina$xChurch history$y17th century 607 $aChina$2fast 608 $aChurch history.$2fast 608 $aHistory.$2fast 615 0$aApologetics$xHistory 615 0$aChristianity and culture$xHistory 615 0$aApologetics$xHistory 615 0$aChristianity and culture$xHistory 615 7$aApologetics. 615 7$aApologetics$xEarly church. 615 7$aChristianity and culture. 615 7$aChristianity and culture$xEarly church. 676 $a239/.0951/09032 700 $aWang$b Xiaochao$01232840 801 0$bNL-LeKB 801 1$bNL-LeKB 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910163128803321 996 $aChristianity and imperial culture$92862701 997 $aUNINA
