The case studies it assembles examine the various ways in which panics and anxieties were generated in imperial situations and how they shook up the dynamics between seemingly all-powerful colonizers and the apparently defenceless colonized. Drawing from examples of the British, Dutch and German colonial experience, the volume sketches out some of the main areas (such as disease, native ?savagery? or sexual transgression) that generated panics or created anxieties in colonial settings and analyses the most common varieties of practical, discursive and epistemic strategies adopted by the colonisers to curb the perceived threats. . 410 0$aCambridge Imperial and Post-Colonial Studies,$x2635-1633 606 $aHistory, Modern 606 $aImperialism 606 $aCivilization?History 606 $aSocial history 606 $aMiddle East?History 606 $aModern History$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/713000 606 $aImperialism and Colonialism$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/722000 606 $aCultural History$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/723000 606 $aSocial History$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/724000 606 $aHistory of the Middle East$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/715060 615 0$aHistory, Modern. 615 0$aImperialism. 615 0$aCivilization?History. 615 0$aSocial history. 615 0$aMiddle East?History. 615 14$aModern History. 615 24$aImperialism and Colonialism. 615 24$aCultural History. 615 24$aSocial History. 615 24$aHistory of the Middle East. 676 $a900 702 $aFischer-Tiné$b Harald$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910163042503321 996 $aAnxieties, Fear and Panic in Colonial Settings$92281488 997 $aUNINA
