This adds another volume to Germania Sacra on the Cistercian Abbeys ? following St. Aegidii in Münster (3rd installment 1), Marienfeld (3rd installment 2) and Bredelar (3rd installment 6). 330 $aMit der Untersuchung zur Zisterzienserabtei Marienstatt im Westerwald legt Christian Hillen den siebten Band derGermania Sacra zum Erzbistum Köln vor. Marienstatt wurde 1212 vom Kloster Heisterbach aus gegründet. Durch die einflussreichen Grafen von Sayn großzügig mit Besitzungen ausgestattet, konnten die Mönche eine der frühesten gotischen Kirchen rechts des Rheins errichten. Die Geschichte des Klosters war durch das zeitweilig spannungsreiche Verhältnis zu den Grafen von Sayn, die sich als Schutzherren der Abtei verstanden, geprägt. Der Übertritt der Grafen zum Protestantismus zog in den folgenden Jahrhunderten heftige Auseinandersetzungen nach sich, die bis zur Aufhebung im Jahre 1803 fortwährten. Die Auswirkungen der Französischen Revolution machten sich in Marienstatt durch schwere Verwüstungen bemerkbar, von denen sich das Kloster nicht mehr erholte. Im Zuge der Abtretung der Gebiete am linken Rheinufer und der damit verbundenen Entschädigung der Territorialherren durch kirchliche Besitzungen rechts des Rheins fiel Marienstatt 1802 an die Fürsten von Nassau-Weilburg. Nach dem bewährten Schema der Germania Sacra skizziert der Autor Christian Hillen kenntnisreich die Geschichte, die Verfassung, das geistige und religiöse Leben, die Besitzgeschichte und vor allem das Personal der Abtei von ihrer Gründung bis zur Aufhebung 1803.
