The topics are (1) Active faults and active tectonics important for seismic hazard assessment of nuclear facilities,(2) Seismic source modeling and simulation and modeling techniques indispensable for strong ground motion prediction, and (3) PRA with external hazard and risk communication. The Fukushima accident has showed us the limitations of the deterministic evaluation approach to external events (an earthquake and tsunami) in which there are many uncertainties. Furthermore, public anxiety regarding nuclear safety because of an unexpected threat caused by an earthquake or tsunami is growing. The current policy on the estimation of the design basis of ground motion as well as tsunami height still has not been improved following the Fukushima accident.  In particular, the risk concept in a nuclear system regarding seismic motion and a tsunami beyond the design basis is indispensable. Therefore, research and development for PRA enhancing nuclear safety are being actively pursued not only in Japan but also worldwide. This book provides an opportunity for readers to consider the future direction of nuclear safety vis-à-vis natural disasters. 606 $aEnvironmental management 606 $aNuclear energy 606 $aNatural disasters 606 $aQuality control 606 $aReliability 606 $aIndustrial safety 606 $aProbabilities 606 $aEnvironmental Management$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/U17009 606 $aNuclear Energy$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/113000 606 $aNatural Hazards$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/G32000 606 $aQuality Control, Reliability, Safety and Risk$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/T22032 606 $aProbability Theory and Stochastic Processes$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/M27004 610 $aEnvironmental Management 615 0$aEnvironmental management. 615 0$aNuclear energy. 615 0$aNatural disasters. 615 0$aQuality control. 615 0$aReliability. 615 0$aIndustrial safety. 615 0$aProbabilities. 615 14$aEnvironmental Management. 615 24$aNuclear Energy. 615 24$aNatural Hazards. 615 24$aQuality Control, Reliability, Safety and Risk. 615 24$aProbability Theory and Stochastic Processes. 676 $a333.7 700 $aKamae$b Katsuhiro$4auth$01355981 702 $aKamae$b Katsuhiro$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910160769403321 996 $aEarthquakes, Tsunamis and Nuclear Risks$93360199 997 $aUNINA
