Il fit ses débuts en 1932 à la Vache Enragée puis se produisit dans plusieurs cabarets parisiens. Avec Jean Valton, il fit les beaux jours du Caveau de la République. Il fut également dans les années 1950-1960 avec son compère Jacques Grello un des piliers des émissions télévisées satiriques du dimanche La Boîte à sel et Le Grenier de Montmartre, ainsi que de l'émission Le Club des chansonniers sur Radio Luxembourg. Leurs dialogues suggéraient déjà le duo de Jean Yanne et Jacques Martin ou celui des Frères ennemis. Ce disque est un enregistrement d'un de ses spectacles d'humoriste-chansonnier, grande vedette satirique des années 50.
