The contributors highlight the social stratification, inner divisions, contradictions and conflicts of the peasant communities, but also pay attention to the elite as leaders of resistance against the authorities. With the formation of more centralised states, the elites? status and room for agency diminished, but regional and temporal variations were great in this relatively drawn-out process, and there still remained several favourable contexts for their agency. Even though the peasant elite was not a homogenous entity, the chapters in this collection present us one uniting feature ? the peasant elites? tendency to assert themselves with an active and aggressive agency, even if this led to very different outcomes. 410 0$aWorld Histories of Crime, Culture and Violence,$x2730-9630 606 $aEurope?History?1492- 606 $aEurope?History?476-1492 606 $aCrime?Sociological aspects 606 $aSocial history 606 $aCivilization?History 606 $aHistory of Early Modern Europe$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/717030 606 $aHistory of Medieval Europe$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/717070 606 $aCrime and Society$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/1B3000 606 $aSocial History$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/724000 606 $aCultural History$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/723000 615 0$aEurope?History?1492-. 615 0$aEurope?History?476-1492. 615 0$aCrime?Sociological aspects. 615 0$aSocial history. 615 0$aCivilization?History. 615 14$aHistory of Early Modern Europe. 615 24$aHistory of Medieval Europe. 615 24$aCrime and Society. 615 24$aSocial History. 615 24$aCultural History. 676 $a940.903 702 $aKoskinen$b Ulla$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910157499903321 996 $aAggressive and Violent Peasant Elites in the Nordic Countries, C. 1500-1700$92126452 997 $aUNINA
