The book is an impassioned defense of the legitimacy of mercantile practices, and includes the first scholarly mention of double-entry bookkeeping. Its four parts focus respectively on trading techniques, from accounting to insurance, the religion of the merchant, his public life, and family matters. Originally handwritten, the book was printed in 1573 in Venice in an abridged and revised version. This new translation makes reference to the new critical edition, based on an earlier manuscript that has only recently been discovered. With scholarly essays placing Cotrugli's work into historical context and highlighting key themes, this volume is an important contribution to our understanding of the origins of management and trade practices. 606 $aEconomic history 606 $aCulture?Economic aspects 606 $aEconomic policy 606 $aEconomics 606 $aAccounting 606 $aBusiness ethics 606 $aHistory of Economic Thought/Methodology$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/W28000 606 $aEconomic History$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/W41000 606 $aCultural Economics$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/W51000 606 $aPolitical Economy/Economic Systems$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/W46000 606 $aFinancial Accounting$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/612010 606 $aBusiness Ethics$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/526000 615 0$aEconomic history. 615 0$aCulture?Economic aspects. 615 0$aEconomic policy. 615 0$aEconomics. 615 0$aAccounting. 615 0$aBusiness ethics. 615 14$aHistory of Economic Thought/Methodology. 615 24$aEconomic History. 615 24$aCultural Economics. 615 24$aPolitical Economy/Economic Systems. 615 24$aFinancial Accounting. 615 24$aBusiness Ethics. 676 $a330.1509 702 $aCarraro$b Carlo$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 702 $aFavero$b Giovanni$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910156332703321 996 $aBenedetto Cotrugli ?
