Taking the publication of Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick?s Epistemologies of the Closet as emblematic of the Library?s inability to account for sexual difference, Melissa Adler embarks upon a detailed critique of how cataloging systems have delimited and proscribed expressions of gender, sexuality, ethnicity, and race in a manner that mirrors psychiatric and sociological attempts to pathologize non-normative sexual practices and civil subjects. Taking up a parallel analysis, Adler utilizes Roderick A. Ferguson?s Aberrations in Black as another example of how the Library of Congress fails to account for, and thereby ?buries,? difference. She examines the physical space of the Library as one that encourages forms of governmentality as theorized by Michel Foucault while also allowing for its utopian possibilities. Finally, she offers a brief but highly illuminating history of the Delta Collection. Likely established before the turn of the twentieth century and active until its gradual dissolution in the 1960s, the Delta Collection was a secret archive within the Library of Congress that housed materials confiscated by the United States Post Office and other federal agencies. These were materials deemed too obscene for public dissemination or general access. Adler reveals how the Delta Collection was used to regulate difference and squelch dissent in the McCarthy era while also linking it to evolving understandings of so-called perversion in the scientific study of sexual difference. Sophisticated, engrossing, and highly readable, Cruising the Library provides us with a critical understanding of library science, an alternative view of discourses around the history of sexuality, and an analysis of the relationship between governmentality and the cataloging of research and information?as well as categories of difference?in American culture. 606 $aClassification, Library of Congress 606 $aSubject headings, Library of Congress 606 $aCataloging$xGovernment policy$zUnited States 606 $aLibrary science$xMoral and ethical aspects 608 $aElectronic books. 610 $aClassification. 610 $aEve Kosofsky Sedgwick. 610 $aHistory of Sexuality. 610 $aKnowledge Organization. 610 $aLibraries. 610 $aLibrary of Congress. 610 $aPerversion. 610 $aQueer theory. 615 0$aClassification, Library of Congress. 615 0$aSubject headings, Library of Congress. 615 0$aCataloging$xGovernment policy 615 0$aLibrary science$xMoral and ethical aspects. 676 $a025.4/33 700 $aAdler$b Melissa$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$01028497 801 0$bDE-B1597 801 1$bDE-B1597 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910480275603321 996 $aCruising the Library$92444536 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01529nam 2200445 450 001 9910155230203321 005 20170314081854.0 010 $a1-5361-0016-1 035 $a(CKB)3710000000973804 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC4787069 035 $a(EXLCZ)993710000000973804 100 $a20170130h20172017 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurcnu|||||||| 181 $2rdacontent 182 $2rdamedia 183 $2rdacarrier 200 00$aDigital stories and their integration in early childhood and primary education $eteaching scenarios and practical ideas /$fJim Prentzase, editor 210 1$aNew York, [New York] :$cNova Science Publishers, Inc.,$d2017. 210 4$d©2017 215 $a1 online resource (215 pages) 225 1 $aEducation in a Competitive and Globalizing World 311 $a1-5361-0001-3 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references at the end of each chapters and index. 410 0$aEducation in a competitive and globalizing world series. 606 $aStorytelling in education 606 $aDigital storytelling 606 $aEarly childhood education 615 0$aStorytelling in education. 615 0$aDigital storytelling. 615 0$aEarly childhood education. 676 $a372.67/7 702 $aPrentzase$b Jim 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910155230203321 996 $aDigital stories and their integration in early childhood and primary education$92887721 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01632nam 2200397z- 450 001 9910346939303321 005 20210212 035 $a(CKB)4920000000101129 035 $a(oapen)https://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/57636 035 $a(oapen)doab57636 035 $a(EXLCZ)994920000000101129 100 $a20202102d2007 |y 0 101 0 $ager 135 $aurmn|---annan 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 00$aRaumplanung in Deutschland - Formeller Aufbau und zuku?nftige Aufgaben.
