Our main result is that stepping up minimum wage growth from 2 to the planned 3 percent per year could raise wage growth by 0.5 percent annually. Given Japan?s need for income policies to generate vigorous wage-price dynanics, reflecting the 2 percent inflation target, one policy implication of this finding is that, while the minimum wage plan will help boost wages, it should be accompanied by other, more ?unorthodox? income policies, such as a ?soft target? for private sector wage growth through a ?comply -or-explain mechanism? for wage growth and increases in public wages in line with the inflation target. 410 0$aIMF Working Papers; Working Paper ;$vNo. 2016/232 606 $aMinimum wage$zJapan 606 $aLabor$2imf 606 $aMacroeconomics$2imf 606 $aWage Level and Structure$2imf 606 $aWage Differentials$2imf 606 $aCompensation Packages$2imf 606 $aPayment Methods$2imf 606 $aIncomes Policy$2imf 606 $aPrice Policy$2imf 606 $aWages, Compensation, and Labor Costs: General$2imf 606 $aWages, Compensation, and Labor Costs: Public Policy$2imf 606 $aLabor Economics: General$2imf 606 $aLabour$2imf 606 $aincome economics$2imf 606 $aMinimum wages$2imf 606 $aWage adjustments$2imf 606 $aWages$2imf 606 $aReal wages$2imf 606 $aMinimum wage$2imf 606 $aLabor economics$2imf 606 $aIncome economics$2imf 607 $aJapan$2imf 615 0$aMinimum wage 615 7$aLabor 615 7$aMacroeconomics 615 7$aWage Level and Structure 615 7$aWage Differentials 615 7$aCompensation Packages 615 7$aPayment Methods 615 7$aIncomes Policy 615 7$aPrice Policy 615 7$aWages, Compensation, and Labor Costs: General 615 7$aWages, Compensation, and Labor Costs: Public Policy 615 7$aLabor Economics: General 615 7$aLabour 615 7$aincome economics 615 7$aMinimum wages 615 7$aWage adjustments 615 7$aWages 615 7$aReal wages 615 7$aMinimum wage 615 7$aLabor economics 615 7$aIncome economics 700 $aAoyagi$b Chie$01378323 701 $aGanelli$b Giovanni$01092052 701 $aTawk$b Nour$01449382 801 0$bDcWaIMF 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910155202303321 996 $aMinimum Wage as a Wage Policy Tool in Japan$93647626 997 $aUNINA
