This book, which focuses on Nasir al-Din Shah's reign (1848-1896), is the first comprehensive scholarly attempt to weave all these threads into a single tapestry. This case study of the Jewish minority illuminates broader processes pertaining to other religious minorities and Iranian society in general, and the interaction among intervening foreigners, the Shi'i majority, and local Jews helps us understand Iranian dilemmas that have persisted well beyond the second half of the nineteenth century. 410 0$aStanford studies in Jewish history and culture. 606 $aJews$zIran$xHistory$y19th century 606 $aIslam$xRelations$xJudaism 606 $aJudaism$xRelations$xIslam 607 $aIran$xHistory$yQajar dynasty, 1794-1925 607 $aIran$xEthnic relations$xHistory$y19th century 615 0$aJews$xHistory 615 0$aIslam$xRelations$xJudaism. 615 0$aJudaism$xRelations$xIslam. 676 $a305.892/405509034 700 $aTsadik$b Daniel$f1969-2023,$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$01439598 801 0$bDE-B1597 801 1$bDE-B1597 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910154726603321 996 $aBetween Foreigners and Shi?is$93601873 997 $aUNINA 999 $aThis Record contains information from the Harvard Library Bibliographic Dataset, which is provided by the Harvard Library under its Bibliographic Dataset Use Terms and includes data made available by, among others the Library of Congress 999 $p$43.75$u12/26/2019$5Hist
