During this period, the American national territory expanded beyond its continental borders to islands in the Pacific and the Caribbean. Simultaneously, new technologies of vision emerged for imagining the human body, including the moving camera, stereoscopes, and more efficient print technologies for mass media. Rather than focusing on canonical American authors who wrote at the time of U.S. imperialism, this book examines abject texts--images of naked savages, corpses, clothed native elites, and uniformed American soldiers--as well as bodies of writing that document the good will and violence of American expansion in the Philippine colony. Contributing to the fields of American studies, Asian American studies, and gender studies, the book analyzes the actual archive of the Philippine-American War and how the racialization and sexualization of the Filipino colonial native have always been part of the cultures of America and U.S. imperialism. By focusing on the Filipino native as an abject body of the American imperial imaginary, this study offers a historical materialist optic for reading the cultures of Filipino America"--$cProvided by publisher. 606 $aImperialism$xSocial aspects$zUnited States$xHistory 606 $aVisual communication$xPolitical aspects$zUnited States$xHistory 606 $aHuman body$xPolitical aspects$zUnited States$xHistory 606 $aRacism$xPolitical aspects$zUnited States$xHistory 606 $aSex$xPolitical aspects$zUnited States$xHistory 607 $aPhilippines$xHistory$yPhilippine American War, 1899-1902$xSocial aspects 607 $aPhilippines$xHistory$yPhilippine American War, 1899-1902$vSources 607 $aPhilippines$xColonization$xSocial aspects$xHistory 607 $aPhilippines$xRelations$zUnited States 607 $aUnited States$xRelations$zPhilippines 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aImperialism$xSocial aspects$xHistory. 615 0$aVisual communication$xPolitical aspects$xHistory. 615 0$aHuman body$xPolitical aspects$xHistory. 615 0$aRacism$xPolitical aspects$xHistory. 615 0$aSex$xPolitical aspects$xHistory. 676 $a959.9/031 686 $aLIT004020$2bisacsh 700 $aBalce$b Nerissa$01245615 712 02$aMichigan Publishing (University of Michigan) 801 0$bMiU 801 1$bMiU 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910154705603321 996 $aBody parts of empire$92888809 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03091nam 2200589 450 001 9910817172603321 005 20180731044130.0 010 $a0-8218-7852-2 010 $a0-8218-5598-0 035 $a(CKB)3240000000069789 035 $a(EBL)3112865 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000850322 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11455560 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000850322 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10832294 035 $a(PQKB)10850953 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC3112865 035 $a(WaSeSS)Ind00039275 035 $a(RPAM)12030474 035 $a(PPN)197105882 035 $a(EXLCZ)993240000000069789 100 $a20000605h20002000 uy| 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 00$aCrystallographic groups and their generalizations $eworkshop, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven Campus Kortrijk, Belgium, May 26-28, 1999 /$fPaul Igodt [and three others], editors 210 1$aProvidence, Rhode Island :$cAmerican Mathematical Society,$d[2000] 210 4$dİ2000 215 $a1 online resource (330 p.) 225 1 $aContemporary mathematics,$x0271-4132 ;$v262 300 $aDescription based upon print version of record. 311 $a0-8218-2001-X 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references. 327 $a""Contents""; ""Preface""; ""List of participants""; ""Titles of talks and posters""; ""Tores affines""; ""On structures preserved by idempotent transformations of groups and homotopy types""; ""Affine Schottky groups and crooked tilings""; ""1.
