Presenting two case studies on the films Easy A (Will Gluck 2010) and Emma (Douglas McGrath 1996), Dang demonstrates that hearsay plays a defining role in the staging of these films and thus in the film experience. While the lack of women?s voices in the general public sphere remains an issue, the female voice is very present in the contemporary woman?s film. In its analysis of gossip, this book focuses on a form of communication that has traditionally been assigned to women and is consequently disregarded. Dang provides a theoretical framework for the understanding of speech acts in the popular, yet undertheorized, genre of chick flicks. Dr Sarah-Mai Dang is a Research Assistant at the Department of Media Studies at the University of Bayreuth, Germany. Previously, she worked at the Collaborative Research Center ?Aesthetic Experience and the Dissolution of Artistic Limits? (SFB 626) and at the Department for Film Studies, both at Freie Universität Berlin, Germany. 410 0$aPalgrave pivot. 606 $aMotion pictures 606 $aFeminism 606 $aFeminist theory 606 $aFilm genres 606 $aPopular culture 606 $aSex 606 $aFilm Theory 606 $aFeminism and Feminist Theory 606 $aGenre Studies 606 $aPopular Culture 606 $aGender Studies 615 0$aMotion pictures. 615 0$aFeminism. 615 0$aFeminist theory. 615 0$aFilm genres. 615 0$aPopular culture. 615 0$aSex. 615 14$aFilm Theory. 615 24$aFeminism and Feminist Theory. 615 24$aGenre Studies. 615 24$aPopular Culture. 615 24$aGender Studies. 676 $a791.4301 700 $aDang$b Sarah-Mai$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$01063300 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910153099803321 996 $aGossip, Women, Film, and Chick Flicks$92531518 997 $aUNINA
