By applying operator splitting to a complicated model one can often split it into simpler problems that can be analyzed separately. In this book one studies operator splitting for a family of nonlinear evolution equations, including hyperbolic conservation laws and degenerate convection-diffusion equations. Common for these equations is the prevalence of rough, or non-smooth, solutions, e.g., shocks. Rigorous analysis is presented, showing that both semi-discrete and fully discrete splitting methods converge. For conservation laws, sharp error estimates are provided and for convection-diffusion equations one discusses a priori and a posteriori correction of entropy errors introduced by the splitting. Numerical methods include finite difference and finite volume methods as well as front tracking. The theory is illustrated by numerous examples. There is a dedicated web page that provides MATLAB codes for many of the examples. The book is suitable for graduate students and researchers in pure and applied mathematics, physics, and engineering. 606 $aDifferential equations$2bicssc 606 $aNumerical analysis$2bicssc 606 $aNumerical analysis$2msc 606 $aPartial differential equations$2msc 606 $aOperator theory$2msc 615 07$aDifferential equations 615 07$aNumerical analysis 615 07$aNumerical analysis 615 07$aPartial differential equations 615 07$aOperator theory 686 $a65-xx$a35-xx$a47-xx$2msc 700 $aHolden$b Helge$052245 702 $aKarlsen$b Kenneth Hvistendahl 702 $aLie$b Knut-Andreas 702 $aRisebro$b Nils Henrik 801 0$bch0018173 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910151932203321 996 $aSplitting methods for partial differential equations with rough solutions$9762630 997 $aUNINA LEADER 02839oas 2201177 a 450 001 9910393355303321 005 20250921213016.0 011 $a1548-9922 035 $a(DE-599)ZDB2151228-0 035 $a(DE-599)2151228-0 035 $a(OCoLC)54534264 035 $a(CONSER) 2004212178 035 $a(CKB)110978966558824 035 $a(EXLCZ)99110978966558824 100 $a20040304a19719999 sy a 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurcnu|||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aFilm & history 210 $a[Newark, N.J.] $cHistorians Film Committee 311 08$a0360-3695 517 3 $aFilm and history 606 $aMotion pictures and history$vPeriodicals 606 $aHistory 606 $aMotion Pictures 606 $aCine?ma et histoire$vPe?riodiques 606 $aMotion pictures and history$2fast 606 $aHistorischer Film$2gnd 606 $aFilmkunst$2gtt 606 $aGeschiedenis$2gtt 606 $aMotion pictures and history$vPeriodicals$vDatabases$2nli 606 $aMotion pictures$vPeriodicals$vDatabases$2nli 607 $aUSA$2gnd 608 $aperiodicals.$2aat 608 $aPeriodicals$2fast 608 $aPeriodicals.$2lcgft 608 $aPe?riodiques.$2rvmgf 608 $aZeitschrift.$2swd 608 $aOnline-Publikation.$2swd 615 0$aMotion pictures and history 615 2$aHistory. 615 2$aMotion Pictures. 615 6$aCine?ma et histoire 615 7$aMotion pictures and history 615 7$aHistorischer Film. 615 17$aFilmkunst. 615 17$aGeschiedenis. 615 7$aMotion pictures and history 615 7$aMotion pictures 676 $a791 712 02$aHistorians Film Committee (Newark, N.J.) 801 0$bNSD 801 1$bNSD 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bOCL 801 2$bOCLCS 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bNSD 801 2$bDLC 801 2$bCUI 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bOCLCF 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bDEFHM 801 2$bOCLCO 801 2$bZ5A 801 2$bOCLCO 801 2$bOCLCA 801 2$bGILDS 801 2$bOCLCO 801 2$bU3W 801 2$bAU@ 801 2$bOCLCO 801 2$bWYU 801 2$bOCLCO 801 2$bAUD 801 2$bOCLCA 801 2$bVT2 801 2$bOCLCO 801 2$bTKN 801 2$bOCLCO 801 2$bOCLCA 801 2$bGH1 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bCGU 801 2$bOCLCE 801 2$bOCLCO 801 2$bQGK 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bIOY 801 2$bOCLCA 801 2$bOCLCL 801 2$bUEJ 801 2$bUBQ 801 2$bOCLCL 906 $aJOURNAL 912 $a9910393355303321 996 $aFilm & history$92201708 997 $aUNINA
