Grounded in a field-based study of the military International Law Department, it examines the dynamic position and impact that international law has had in the OPT. By analysing the Israeli 2008/9 offensive in Gaza as an example of contemporary warfare, the author argues that law and military agenda have become intertwined in ?lawfare?, a condition sanctioning new forms of law and violence. The military legal system is central to the Israeli management of the OPT, yet despite the great interest in the legal aspects of the Israeli occupation, scholarly accounts of this institution are scarce. This discussion also has wider international relevance, particularly in the backdrop of the contemporary prominence of international law in Western militaries? operations. This book will appeal to researchers, practitioners and students interested in international relations, political theory, human rights, Middle Eastern politics, and legal studies. 410 0$aInternational Political Theory,$x2662-6039 606 $aPolitical theory 606 $aMiddle East?Politics and government 606 $aPolitics and war 606 $aPolitical Theory$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/911010 606 $aMiddle Eastern Politics$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/911160 606 $aMilitary and Defence Studies$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/912080 615 0$aPolitical theory. 615 0$aMiddle East?Politics and government. 615 0$aPolitics and war. 615 14$aPolitical Theory. 615 24$aMiddle Eastern Politics. 615 24$aMilitary and Defence Studies. 676 $a320.01 700 $aGeva$b Maayan$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$0790033 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910151668003321 996 $aLaw, politics and violence in israel$91763094 997 $aUNINA
