Christina Holmes examines ecological themes across film, literature, murals and other visual art, Chicano nationalist activism, and contemporary direct action organization and presents how Chicana artists, activists, and scholars craft alternative models for ecofeminist praxis. Drawing on debates central to earlier ecofeminist work, Holmes analyzes issues around embodiment, women's connections to nature, and the place of spirituality in ecofeminist philosophy and practice. Chicana environmentalism provides pathways to insights in decolonization by linking social and ecological justice outside of a narrow framework, and Holmes seeks to explore the challenges to debates in the canon of ecofeminist literature to develop a more inclusive model of environmental feminism to alleviate some of the biases in Western feminism. Close readings of theoretical work; careful elaborations of ecological narratives in Chicana cultural productions; histories of land, water, and work rights struggles in the Southwest; and a detailed description of an activist exemplar of Chicana eco-feminist practices all work in tandem to underscore the importance of living with feminist commitment in body, nature, and spirit. Chicana Environmentalisms demonstrates how Chicana feminists have actively and materially stretched themselves into coalitions with human, nature, and spirit others, and these acts underscore the role of agency in Chicana ecofeminist work"--$cProvided by publisher. 410 0$aNational Women's Studies Association/University of Illinois First Book Prize. 606 $aSOCIAL SCIENCE / Gender Studies$2bisacsh 606 $aSOCIAL SCIENCE / Ethnic Studies / Hispanic American Studies$2bisacsh 606 $aSOCIAL SCIENCE / Feminism & Feminist Theory$2bisacsh 606 $aMexican Americans$xStudy and teaching 606 $aFeminism 606 $aEnvironmental justice$zMexican-American Border Region 606 $aWomen and the environment$zMexican-American Border Region 606 $aWomen$zMexican-American Border Region 606 $aMexican American women 606 $aEcofeminism$zMexican-American Border Region 608 $aElectronic books. 615 7$aSOCIAL SCIENCE / Gender Studies. 615 7$aSOCIAL SCIENCE / Ethnic Studies / Hispanic American Studies. 615 7$aSOCIAL SCIENCE / Feminism & Feminist Theory. 615 0$aMexican Americans$xStudy and teaching. 615 0$aFeminism. 615 0$aEnvironmental justice 615 0$aWomen and the environment 615 0$aWomen 615 0$aMexican American women. 615 0$aEcofeminism 676 $a305.4886872073 686 $aSOC010000$aSOC044000$aSOC032000$2bisacsh 700 $aHolmes$b Christina$f1979-$01247815 801 0$bMdBmJHUP 801 1$bMdBmJHUP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910151612903321 996 $aEcological Borderlands$92892440 997 $aUNINA
