Learn more at www.luminosoa.org.Creating the Qur?an presents the first systematic historical-critical study of the Qur?an?s origins, drawing on methods and perspectives commonly used to study other scriptural traditions. Demonstrating in detail that the Islamic tradition relates not a single attested account of the holy text?s formation, Stephen J. Shoemaker shows how the Qur?an preserves a surprisingly diverse array of memories regarding the text?s early history and its canonization. To this he adds perspectives from radiocarbon dating of manuscripts, the linguistic history of Arabic, the social and cultural history of late ancient Arabia, and the limitations of human memory and oral transmission, as well as various peculiarities of the Qur?anic text itself. Considering all the relevant data to present the most comprehensive and convincing examination of the origin and evolution of the Qur?an available, Shoemaker concludes that the canonical text of the Qur?an was most likely produced only around the turn of the eighth century. 517 $aCreating the Qur’an 517 $aCreating the Qur?an 606 $aAncient religions & mythologies$2bicssc 606 $aIslam$2bicssc 610 $aReligion 610 $aAncient 610 $aIslam 610 $aHistory 615 7$aAncient religions & mythologies 615 7$aIslam 700 $aShoemaker$b Stephen J$4auth$0618665 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910585998603321 996 $aCreating the Qur?an$92902249 997 $aUNINA LEADER 02420oas 2200901 a 450 001 9910147202103321 005 20251105213014.0 011 $a1937-0245 035 $a(DE-599)ZDB2753847-3 035 $a(OCoLC)123990706 035 $a(CONSER) 2007214374 035 $a(CKB)1000000000295039 035 $a(EXLCZ)991000000000295039 100 $a20070504a20079999 uy a 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurcnu|||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aJournal of applied social science 210 $aBoulder, CO $cParadigm Publishers$d©2007- 210 3 $aThousand Oaks, CA $cSage Publications 300 $aRefereed/Peer-reviewed 300 $aTitle from PDF cover (JSTOR, viewed Mar. 28, 2014). 300 $a"An Official Publication of the Association of Applied and Clinical Sociology." 311 08$a1936-7244 517 1 $aJASS 517 1 $aApplied social science 531 0 $aJ. appl. soc. sci. 606 $aApplied sociology$vPeriodicals 606 $aClinical sociology$vPeriodicals 606 $aApplied sociology$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst00811765 606 $aClinical sociology$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst00864425 606 $aSociologie applique?e$vPe?riodiques 606 $aSociothe?rapie$vPe?riodiques 608 $aCzasopismo socjologiczne.$2dbn 608 $aPeriodicals.$2fast 608 $aPeriodicals.$2lcgft 615 0$aApplied sociology 615 0$aClinical sociology 615 7$aApplied sociology. 615 7$aClinical sociology. 615 6$aSociologie applique?e 615 6$aSociothe?rapie 676 $a360 712 02$aAssociation for Applied and Clinical Sociology, 801 0$bNSD 801 1$bNSD 801 2$bNSD 801 2$bCLU 801 2$bDLC 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bPFM 801 2$bOCLCF 801 2$bEYM 801 2$bCGU 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bKSU 801 2$bNLE 801 2$bUKMGB 801 2$bVT2 801 2$bCNTRU 801 2$bSFB 801 2$bCNMTR 801 2$bUBY 801 2$bVLY 801 2$bBWN 801 2$bDLC 801 2$bEZC 801 2$bOCLCO 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bUAB 801 2$bOCLCL 801 2$bUEJ 906 $aJOURNAL 912 $a9910147202103321 996 $aJournal of applied social science$92127377 997 $aUNINA
