Migration control has increasingly moved to the high seas or the territory of transit and origin countries, and is now commonly outsourced to private actors. Under threat of financial penalties airlines today reject any passenger not in possession of a valid visa, and private contractors are used to run detention centres and man border crossings. In this volume Thomas Gammeltoft-Hansen examines the impact of these new practices for refugees' access to asylum. A systematic analysis is provided of the reach and limits of international refugee law when migration control is carried out extraterritorially or by non-state actors. State practice from around the globe and case law from all the major human rights institutions is discussed. The arguments are further linked to wider debates in human rights, general international law and political science. 410 0$aCambridge studies in international and comparative law (Cambridge, England : 1996) ;$v77. 606 $aAsylum, Right of 606 $aPolitical refugees$xLegal status, laws, etc 606 $aLaw and globalization 615 0$aAsylum, Right of. 615 0$aPolitical refugees$xLegal status, laws, etc. 615 0$aLaw and globalization. 676 $a342.08/3 700 $aGammeltoft-Hansen$b Thomas$0611771 801 0$bUkCbUP 801 1$bUkCbUP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910458969603321 996 $aAccess to asylum$91138570 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01324nam 22003853 450 001 9910145868603321 005 20030120000000.0 010 $a88-7125-229-2 035 $a(CKB)1000000000279590 035 $a(ItFiC)it 02250360 035 $a(EXLCZ)991000000000279590 100 $a20060828d2002 uy 0 101 0 $aita 200 03$aLa legislazione suntuaria $esecoli 13.- 16. 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references. 517 $aLegislazione suntuaria 517 $aLa legislazione suntuaria : secoli 13.- 16. : Emilia Romagna 517 $aLa legislazione suntuaria 607 $aEmilia-Romagna (Italy)$xHistory$vSources 607 $aEmilia-Romagna (Italy)$xSocial life and customs 676 $a344 676 $a390 676 $a340 676 $a945 701 $aMuzzarelli$b Maria Giuseppina$0145763 801 0$bItFiC 801 1$bItFiC 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910145868603321 996 $aLa legislazione suntuaria$92428798 997 $aUNINA
