Conclusion: On Tourism, Identity and the World Wide Web -- $tReferences -- $tIndex 330 $aOfficial Tourism Websites: A Discourse Analysis Perspective investigates the construction and promotion of identity of tourist locales by the designers of the official websites for destinations such as Santiago de Compostela, Spain; the Baltic states of Latvia and Estonia; New Orleans, Louisiana and Gary, Indiana; Myanmar/Burma; US Sports Halls of Fame; and, in recognizing the influence and popularity of such sites, three websites parodying the imaginary nations of Phaic Tan, Molvania, and San Sombrero. Analysis addresses how tourism websites foster social action and, therefore, contribute to the (re)construction of nations and other communities by variably fostering re-imagination, rebirth, renaissance, promotion and caution, and patriotism. Recognizing that tourism texts can function to both construct and embody identity for their respective locales, this investigation employs critical discourse analysis, multimodal discourse analysis, and visual semiotic analysis in the investigation of web texts and images. 410 0$aTourism and cultural change ;$v23. 606 $aTourism$xComputer network resources 606 $aWeb sites 606 $aWorld Wide Web 610 $acommunity. 610 $adiscourse analysis. 610 $ameaning-making. 610 $anational identity. 610 $aofficial tourism websites. 610 $aplanning. 610 $atourism marketing. 615 0$aTourism$xComputer network resources. 615 0$aWeb sites. 615 0$aWorld Wide Web. 676 $a025.06/91 700 $aHallett$b Richard W$0477435 701 $aKaplan-Weinger$b Judith$0732124 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910791369203321 996 $aOfficial Tourism Websites$91442458 997 $aUNINA LEADER 02880oas 2201093 a 450 001 9910145501103321 005 20251120224601.0 011 $a1548-1492 035 $a(DE-599)ZDB2185015-X 035 $a(OCoLC)41156082 035 $a(CONSER) 2004213826 035 $a(CKB)954925478528 035 $a(EXLCZ)99954925478528 100 $a19990413a19769999 sy a 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurbnu|||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 00$aAnthropology & education quarterly 210 $aWashington $cCouncil on Anthropology and Education$d©1976- 210 3 $aMalden, MA $cPublished by Wiley-Blackwell for the American Anthropological Association 215 $a1 online resource 300 $aRefereed/Peer-reviewed 300 $aTitle from title screen (JSTOR, viewed Apr. 13, 2005). 311 08$a0161-7761 517 3 $aAnthropology and education quarterly 606 $aEducational anthropology$vPeriodicals 606 $aEducation$vPeriodicals 606 $aAnthropologie et e?ducation$vPe?riodiques 606 $aEducation$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst00902499 606 $aEducational anthropology$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst00903334 606 $aEducació$vRevistes$2lemac 606 $aAntropologia$xEnsenyament$vRevistes$2lemac 606 $aEducació$2thub 606 $aAntropologia$2thub 608 $aPeriodicals.$2fast 608 $aPeriodicals.$2lcgft 608 $aRevistes electròniques.$2thub 615 0$aEducational anthropology 615 0$aEducation 615 6$aAnthropologie et e?ducation 615 7$aEducation. 615 7$aEducational anthropology. 615 7$aEducació 615 7$aAntropologia$xEnsenyament 615 7$aEducació. 615 7$aAntropologia. 712 02$aCouncil on Anthropology and Education 712 02$aAmerican Anthropological Association 801 0$bUV$ 801 1$bUV$ 801 2$bOCL 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bNSD 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bEYM 801 2$bHUL 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bMYG 801 2$bNSD 801 2$bMYG 801 2$bGBT 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bCCO 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bOCLCO 801 2$bGBVCP 801 2$bSCB 801 2$bOCLCO 801 2$bOCLCF 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bDEBBG 801 2$bRCE 801 2$bNLE 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bUKMGB 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bVT2 801 2$bNJT 801 2$bOCLCA 801 2$bEZC 801 2$bDLC 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bCUS 801 2$bAUD 801 2$bSFB 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bOCLCL 801 2$bOCLCQ 906 $aJOURNAL 912 $a9910145501103321 996 $aAnthropology & education quarterly$91990421 997 $aUNINA
