Executioners, skinners, grave-diggers, shepherds, barber-surgeons, millers, linen-weavers, sow-gelders, latrine-cleaners, and bailiffs were among the 'dishonourable' by virtue of their trades. This dishonour was either hereditary, often through several generations, or it arose from ritual pollution whereby honourable citizens could become dishonourable by coming into casual contact with members of the outcast group. The dishonourable milieu of the city of Augsburg from the sixteenth to the eighteenth centuries is reconstructed to show the extent to which dishonour determined the life-chances and self-identity of dishonourable people. The book then investigates how honourable estates interacted with dishonourable people, and how the pollution anxieties of early modern Germans structured social and political relations within honourable society. 410 0$aCambridge studies in early modern history. 606 $aSocial classes$zGermany$xHistory 606 $aOccupations$zGermany$xHistory 615 0$aSocial classes$xHistory. 615 0$aOccupations$xHistory. 676 $a305.50943 700 $aStuart$b Kathy$01092308 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910957008203321 996 $aDefiled trades and social outcasts$94374608 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01892nas 2200577-a 450 001 9910145357003321 005 20240413030346.0 011 $a1980-590X 035 $a(DE-599)ZDB2401411-4 035 $a(CKB)991042748129602 035 $a(CONSER)sn-89025126- 035 $a(EXLCZ)99991042748129602 100 $a19820204a19789999 --- b 101 0 $apor 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 00$aEstudos de biologia 210 $a[Curitiba, Paraná] $cUniversidade Católica do Paraná$d[1978- 215 $a1 online resource 300 $aTitle from cover. 311 08$aPrint version: Estudos de biologia. 0102-2067 (DLC)sn 89025126 (OCoLC)8126934 531 $aESTUD BIOL (CURITIBA) 531 0 $aEstud. biol. 606 $aBiology 606 $aBiology$zBrazil$zParaná (State) 606 $aNatural history 606 $aNatural history$zBrazil$zParaná (State) 606 $aMarine biology 606 $aMarine biology$zBrazil$zParaná (State) 606 $aBiology$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst00832383 606 $aMarine biology$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst01009447 606 $aNatural history$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst01034268 607 $aBrazil$zParana?
