The book is the first to outline and critique how educational discourses have directly fed into postfeminist anxieties, exploring three postfeminist panics over girls and girlhood that circulate widely in the international media and popular culture. First it explores how a masculinity crisis over failing boys in school has spawned a backlash discourse about overly successful girls; second it looks at how widespread anxieties over girls becoming excessively mean and/or violent have positioned female aggression as pathological; third it examines how incessant concerns over controlling risky female sexuality underpin recent sexualisation of girls moral panics. The book outlines how these postfeminist panics over girlhood have influenced educational policies and practices in areas such as academic achievement, anti-bullying strategies and sex-education curriculum, making visible the new postfeminist, sexual politics of schooling. Moving beyond media or policy critique, however, this book offers new theoretical and methodological tools for researching postfeminism, girlhood and education. It engages with current theoretical debates over possibilities for girls' agency and empowerment in postfeminist, neo-liberal contexts of sexual regulation. It also elaborates new psychosocial and feminist Deleuzian methodological approaches for mapping subjectivity, affectivity and social change"--$cProvided by publisher. 410 0$aFoundations and Futures of Education 606 $aFeminism and education 606 $aSex differences in education 606 $aSex discrimination in education 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aFeminism and education. 615 0$aSex differences in education. 615 0$aSex discrimination in education. 676 $a370/.82 700 $aRingrose$b Jessica.$0859543 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910462415203321 996 $aPostfeminist education$91918292 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01116nam 2200349 450 001 9910145149603321 005 20231020034111.0 010 $a1-5090-9065-7 035 $a(CKB)1000000000695858 035 $a(NjHacI)991000000000695858 035 $a(EXLCZ)991000000000695858 100 $a20231020d2007 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur||||||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$a2007 IEEE Globecom Workshops /$fInstitute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers 210 1$aPiscataway, New Jersey :$cInstitute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers,$d2007. 215 $a1 online resource 311 $a1-4244-2024-5 606 $aArtificial satellites in telecommunication 606 $aBroadband communication systems 615 0$aArtificial satellites in telecommunication. 615 0$aBroadband communication systems. 676 $a621.3825 801 0$bNjHacI 801 1$bNjHacl 906 $aPROCEEDING 912 $a9910145149603321 996 $a2007 IEEE Globecom Workshops$92533995 997 $aUNINA
