Today, databasesystemsareparticularlyrelevanttotheWeb,astheycanprovideinputtocontent generators for Web pages, and can handle queries issued over the Internet. The eXtensible Markup Language (XML) is used in applications running the gamut from content management through publishing to Web services and e-commerce. It is used as the universal communication language for exchanging music and graphics as well as purchase orders and technical documentation. As database systems increasingly talk to each other over the Web, there is a fa- growingdesiretouseXMLasthestandardexchangeformat.Asaresult, manyrelational database systems can export data as XML documents and import data from XML d- uments and provide query and update capabilities for XML data. In addition, so called native XML database and integration systems are appearing on the database market, whose claim is to be especially tailored to storing, maintaining, and easily accessing XML documents. After the huge success of the ?rst XML Database Symposium (XSym 2003) last year in Berlin (already then in conjunction withVLDB) it was decided to establish this symposiumasanannualeventthatissupposedtotakeplaceasanintegralpartofVLDB. Thegoalofthissymposiumistoprovideahigh-qualityplatformforthepresentationand discussion of new research results and system developments. It is targeted at scientists, practitioners, vendors and users of XML and database technologies. 410 0$aLecture Notes in Computer Science,$x1611-3349 ;$v3186 606 $aData structures (Computer science) 606 $aInformation theory 606 $aDatabase management 606 $aInformation storage and retrieval systems 606 $aApplication software 606 $aSoftware engineering 606 $aComputer networks 606 $aData Structures and Information Theory 606 $aDatabase Management 606 $aInformation Storage and Retrieval 606 $aComputer and Information Systems Applications 606 $aSoftware Engineering 606 $aComputer Communication Networks 615 0$aData structures (Computer science). 615 0$aInformation theory. 615 0$aDatabase management. 615 0$aInformation storage and retrieval systems. 615 0$aApplication software. 615 0$aSoftware engineering. 615 0$aComputer networks. 615 14$aData Structures and Information Theory. 615 24$aDatabase Management. 615 24$aInformation Storage and Retrieval. 615 24$aComputer and Information Systems Applications. 615 24$aSoftware Engineering. 615 24$aComputer Communication Networks. 676 $a005.74 702 $aBellahsène$b Zohra$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 702 $aMilo$b Tova$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 702 $aRys$b Michael$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 702 $aSuciu$b Dan$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 702 $aUnland$b Rainer$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 712 12$aInternational XML Database Symposium 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910144152303321 996 $aDatabase and XML Technologies$9772407 997 $aUNINA
