The conference brought together contributors from a range of relevant disciplines, including arti?cial intelligence, information systems, software engineering, and systems engineering. The keynote speakers, Piero Bonissone, Ray Paul, Sir Tony Hoare, Michael Jackson, and Derek McAuley have interests and experience that collectively span all of these ?elds. Soft issues involve information or knowledge that is uncertain, incomplete, or contradictory. Examples of where such issues arise include: ? requirements management and software quality control in software engine- ing, ? con?ict or multiple sources information management in information systems, ? decision making/prediction in business management systems, ? quality control in networks and user services in telecommunications, ? traditional human rationality modeling in arti?cial intelligence, ? data analysis in machine learning and data mining, ? control management in engineering. The concept of dealing with uncertainty became prominent in the arti?cial intel- gence community nearly 20 years ago, when researchers realized that addressing uncertainty was an essential part of representing and reasoning about human knowledge in intelligent systems. The main methodologies that have emerged in this area are soft computing and computational intelligence. 410 0$aLecture Notes in Computer Science,$x0302-9743 ;$v2311 606 $aOperating systems (Computers) 606 $aSoftware engineering 606 $aManagement information systems 606 $aComputer science 606 $aComputers 606 $aArtificial intelligence 606 $aOperating Systems$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/I14045 606 $aSoftware Engineering/Programming and Operating Systems$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/I14002 606 $aSoftware Engineering$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/I14029 606 $aManagement of Computing and Information Systems$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/I24067 606 $aComputation by Abstract Devices$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/I16013 606 $aArtificial Intelligence$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/I21000 615 0$aOperating systems (Computers) 615 0$aSoftware engineering. 615 0$aManagement information systems. 615 0$aComputer science. 615 0$aComputers. 615 0$aArtificial intelligence. 615 14$aOperating Systems. 615 24$aSoftware Engineering/Programming and Operating Systems. 615 24$aSoftware Engineering. 615 24$aManagement of Computing and Information Systems. 615 24$aComputation by Abstract Devices. 615 24$aArtificial Intelligence. 676 $a005.1 702 $aBustard$b David$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 702 $aLiu$b Weiru$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910143910403321 996 $aSoft-Ware 2002: Computing in an Imperfect World$92072178 997 $aUNINA
