It was a period when theatre and opera worlds mixed, venues were shared, and agents and managers collaborated and competed. Through primary sources, many analysed for the first time, Woodfield examines such issues as finances, recruitment policy, the handling of singers and composers, links with Paris and Italy, and the role of women in opera management. These key topics are also placed within the context of a personal dispute between two of the most important managers of the day, the woman writer Frances Brooke and the actor David Garrick, which influenced the running of the major venues, the King's Theatre, Drury Lane and Covent Garden. Woodfield has also uncovered new information concerning the influential role of the eighteenth-century music historian and critic Charles Burney, as artistic advisor to the King's Theatre. 410 0$aCambridge studies in opera. 517 3 $aOpera & Drama in Eighteenth-Century London 606 $aTheater management$zEngland$zLondon$y18th century 606 $aOpera$zEngland$zLondon$y18th century 615 0$aTheater management 615 0$aOpera 676 $a792.5/09421 700 $aWoodfield$b Ian$01009397 801 0$bUkCbUP 801 1$bUkCbUP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910449713903321 996 $aOpera and drama in eighteenth-century London$92330858 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03078oas 2200949 a 450 001 9910143800903321 005 20251105213014.0 011 $a1879-0755 035 $a(DE-599)ZDB1501325-x 035 $a(DE-599)1501325-X 035 $a(OCoLC)38840818 035 $a(CONSER) 2005233263 035 $a(CKB)954925455954 035 $a(EXLCZ)99954925455954 100 $a19980324a19739999 sy a 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurmnu|||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aComputers & electrical engineering 210 $a[Oxford] $cPergamon Press$d1973- 300 $aRefereed/Peer-reviewed 300 $aTitle from contents screen (ScienceDirect, viewed Oct. 15, 2005). 311 08$a0045-7906 517 3 $aComputers and electrical engineering 606 $aComputer engineering$vPeriodicals 606 $aElectrical engineering$vPeriodicals 606 $aElectrical engineering$xData processing$vPeriodicals 606 $aElectrical engineering$vPeriodicals 606 $aElectrical engineering$xData processing$xPeriodicals 606 $aOrdinateurs$xConception et construction$xPe?riodiques 606 $aGe?nie e?lectrique$xPe?riodiques 606 $aGe?nie e?lectrique$xInformatique$xPe?riodiques 606 $aOrdinateurs$xConception et construction$vPe?riodiques 606 $aGe?nie e?lectrique$vPe?riodiques 606 $aGe?nie e?lectrique$xInformatique$vPe?riodiques 606 $aComputer engineering$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst00872078 606 $aElectrical engineering$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst01728596 606 $aElectrical engineering$xData processing$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst01728608 608 $aPeriodicals.$2fast 608 $aPeriodicals.$2lcgft 615 0$aComputer engineering 615 0$aElectrical engineering 615 0$aElectrical engineering$xData processing 615 0$aElectrical engineering 615 0$aElectrical engineering$xData processing$xPeriodicals. 615 6$aOrdinateurs$xConception et construction$xPe?riodiques. 615 6$aGe?nie e?lectrique$xPe?riodiques. 615 6$aGe?nie e?lectrique$xInformatique$xPe?riodiques. 615 6$aOrdinateurs$xConception et construction 615 6$aGe?nie e?lectrique 615 6$aGe?nie e?lectrique$xInformatique 615 7$aComputer engineering. 615 7$aElectrical engineering. 615 7$aElectrical engineering$xData processing. 801 0$bOH1 801 1$bOH1 801 2$bOCL 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bGUA 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bU9S 801 2$bGUA 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bOCLCO 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bOCLCF 801 2$bOCLCO 801 2$bVT2 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bNLE 801 2$bUKMGB 801 2$bOCLCO 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bUAB 801 2$bAUD 801 2$bOCLCQ 906 $aJOURNAL 912 $a9910143800903321 996 $aComputers & electrical engineering$92233278 997 $aUNINA
