This book breaks with the conventional model of perception that views vision as a mere inference to an objective reality on the basis of "inverse optics." The authors offer the alternative view that perception is an expressive and awareness-generating process. Perception creates semantic information in such a way as to enable the observer to deal efficaciously with the chaotic and meaningless structure present at the physical boundary between the body and its surroundings. Vision is intentional by its very nature; visual qualities are essential and real, providing an aesthetic and meaningful interface to the structures of physics and the state of the brain. This view brings perception firmly in line with ethology and modern evolutionary biology and suggests new approaches in all disciplines that study, or require an understanding of, the ontology of mind.The book is the joint effort of a multidisciplinary group of authors. Topics covered include the relationships among stimuli, neuronal processes, and visual awareness. After considering the mind-dependent growing of information, the book treats time and dynamics; color, shape, and space; language and perception; perception, art, and design. 606 $aVisual perception 606 $aCognitive neuroscience 610 $aCOGNITIVE SCIENCES/General 610 $aNEUROSCIENCE/Visual Neuroscience 615 0$aVisual perception. 615 0$aCognitive neuroscience. 676 $a152.14 701 $aAlbertazzi$b Liliana$066513 701 $aVan Tonder$b Gert J.$f1970-$01568609 701 $aVishwanath$b Dhanraj$f1967-$01568610 801 0$bOCoLC-P 801 1$bOCoLC-P 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910789570703321 996 $aPerception beyond inference$93840857 997 $aUNINA LEADER 05073oas 2201981 a 450 001 9910143342503321 005 20251105213014.0 011 $a1873-6327 035 $a(DE-599)ZDB2012189-1 035 $a(DE-599)2012189-1 035 $a(OCoLC)38492317 035 $a(CONSER) 2002238453 035 $a(CKB)954925514502 035 $a(EXLCZ)99954925514502 100 $a19980223a19759999 sy a 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurcn||||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aAddictive behaviors 210 $a[Oxford] ;$a[New York] $cPergamon Press 210 3 $aAmsterdam $cElsevier 300 $aRefereed/Peer-reviewed 300 $aIndex and table of contents for 1995- also available online. 311 08$a0306-4603 606 $aSubstance abuse$vPeriodicals 606 $aAlcoholism$vPeriodicals 606 $aDrug addiction$vPeriodicals 606 $aObesity$vPeriodicals 606 $aNicotine addiction$vPeriodicals 606 $aSmoking$vPeriodicals 606 $aAlcoholism 606 $aObesity 606 $aHuman behavior 606 $aFood habits 606 $aAlcoholism$vPeriodicals 606 $aObesity$xPeriodicals 606 $aAlcoholism 606 $aSmoking 606 $aObesity 606 $aBehavior 606 $aSubstance-Related Disorders 606 $aFeeding Behavior 606 $aAlcoolisme$xPe?riodiques 606 $aToxicomanie$xPe?riodiques 606 $aObe?site?$xPe?riodiques 606 $aTabagisme$xPe?riodiques 606 $aPolytoxicomanie$vPe?riodiques 606 $aAlcoolisme$vPe?riodiques 606 $aToxicomanie$vPe?riodiques 606 $aObe?site?$vPe?riodiques 606 $aTabagisme$vPe?riodiques 606 $aAlcoolisme 606 $aTabagisme 606 $aObe?site? 606 $aComportement humain 606 $aToxicomanie 606 $aHabitudes alimentaires 606 $aalcoholism$2aat 606 $ahuman behavior$2aat 606 $aHuman behavior$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst00962811 606 $aFood habits$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst00930807 606 $aAlcoholism$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst00804461 606 $aDrug addiction$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst01430217 606 $aNicotine addiction$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst01737194 606 $aObesity$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst01042738 606 $aSmoking$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst01121689 606 $aSubstance abuse$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst01136767 608 $aPeriodical. 608 $aPeriodicals.$2fast 608 $aPeriodicals.$2lcgft 615 0$aSubstance abuse 615 0$aAlcoholism 615 0$aDrug addiction 615 0$aObesity 615 0$aNicotine addiction 615 0$aSmoking 615 0$aAlcoholism. 615 0$aObesity. 615 0$aHuman behavior. 615 0$aFood habits. 615 0$aAlcoholism 615 0$aObesity$xPeriodicals. 615 2$aAlcoholism. 615 2$aSmoking. 615 2$aObesity. 615 2$aBehavior. 615 2$aSubstance-Related Disorders. 615 2$aFeeding Behavior. 615 6$aAlcoolisme$xPe?riodiques. 615 6$aToxicomanie$xPe?riodiques. 615 6$aObe?site?$xPe?riodiques. 615 6$aTabagisme$xPe?riodiques. 615 6$aPolytoxicomanie 615 6$aAlcoolisme 615 6$aToxicomanie 615 6$aObe?site? 615 6$aTabagisme 615 6$aAlcoolisme. 615 6$aTabagisme. 615 6$aObe?site?. 615 6$aComportement humain. 615 6$aToxicomanie. 615 6$aHabitudes alimentaires. 615 7$aalcoholism. 615 7$ahuman behavior. 615 7$aHuman behavior. 615 7$aFood habits. 615 7$aAlcoholism. 615 7$aDrug addiction. 615 7$aNicotine addiction. 615 7$aObesity. 615 7$aSmoking. 615 7$aSubstance abuse. 676 $a616 801 0$bOH1 801 1$bOH1 801 2$bOCL 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bIUL 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bU9S 801 2$bCLU 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bGUA 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bIUL 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bOPELS 801 2$bOCLCF 801 2$bOCLCO 801 2$bVT2 801 2$bSE4M6 801 2$bOCLCO 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bOCLCO 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bDGU 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bBUF 801 2$bFQM 801 2$bAU@ 801 2$bOCLCO 801 2$bWYU 801 2$bUKMGB 801 2$bAUD 801 2$bU3W 801 2$bOCLCO 801 2$bOCLCA 801 2$bLEAUB 801 2$bOCLCO 801 2$bOCLCA 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bOCLCA 801 2$bOCLCO 801 2$bQGK 801 2$bOCLCO 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bOCL 801 2$bUAB 801 2$bOCLCL 801 2$bEZA 801 2$bOCLCQ 906 $aJOURNAL 912 $a9910143342503321 996 $aAddictive behaviors$91904544 997 $aUNINA
