Through the voices of female and male combatants, it demonstrates that women remained marginal in the examination of imprisonment during the Conflict and in the negotiated peace process. However, the book shows that women performed a number of roles in war and peace that placed constructions of femininity in dissent. Azrini Wahidin argues that the role of the female combatant is not given but ambiguous. She indicates that a tension exists between different conceptualisations of societal security, where female combatants both fought against societal insecurity posed by the state and contributed to internal societal dissonance within their ethno-national groups. This book tackles the lacunae that has created a disturbing silence and an absence of a comprehensive understanding of women combatants, which includes knowledge of their motivations, roles and experiences. It will be of particular interest to scholars of criminology, politics and peace studies. 410 0$aPalgrave Studies in Compromise after Conflict 606 $aCrime?Sociological aspects 606 $aCorrections 606 $aPunishment 606 $aSociology 606 $aOrganized crime 606 $aTerrorism 606 $aPolitical violence 606 $aPeace 606 $aCrime and Society$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/1B3000 606 $aPrison and Punishment$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/1B9000 606 $aGender Studies$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/X35000 606 $aOrganized Crime$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/1B8000 606 $aTerrorism and Political Violence$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/912090 606 $aPeace Studies$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/912070 607 $aNorthern Ireland$2fast 608 $aHistory.$2fast 615 0$aCrime?Sociological aspects. 615 0$aCorrections. 615 0$aPunishment. 615 0$aSociology. 615 0$aOrganized crime. 615 0$aTerrorism. 615 0$aPolitical violence. 615 0$aPeace. 615 14$aCrime and Society. 615 24$aPrison and Punishment. 615 24$aGender Studies. 615 24$aOrganized Crime. 615 24$aTerrorism and Political Violence. 615 24$aPeace Studies. 676 $a364 700 $aWahidin$b Azrini$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$01063968 912 $a9910137138903321 996 $aEx-Combatants, Gender and Peace in Northern Ireland$92535596 997 $aUNINA
