It is played by more than 60 million people worldwide, and there are more than 32,000 courses across the globe in 140 countries. This book looks at the power relationships in and around golf, examining whether the industry has demonstrated sufficient leadership on environmental matters for the government to be able to trust them to make decisions with implications for public health. It is the first comprehensive study of the varying impacts of golf on the environment, and is based on extensive empirical research, including interviews with major stakeholders in the golf industry and members of protest groups. The authors examine golf as a sport and as a global industry, drawing on three discrete literatures ? the study of sport as a global social movement, environmental sociology and the study of corporate environmentalism. 410 0$aGlobalizing sport studies. 606 $aGolf courses$xEnvironmental aspects 606 $aGolf$xTournaments$xEnvironmental aspects 606 $aSports and globalization 615 0$aGolf courses$xEnvironmental aspects. 615 0$aGolf$xTournaments$xEnvironmental aspects. 615 0$aSports and globalization. 676 $a796.352068 700 $aMillington$b Brad$0904789 702 $aWilson$b Brian$f1969-, 801 2$bUkMaJRU 801 2$bAuAdUSA 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910136753703321 996 $aThe greening of golf$92023447 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03147nam 2200757Ia 450 001 9910975036903321 005 20251116173220.0 010 $a1-135-57884-2 010 $a1-135-57885-0 010 $a1-280-40713-1 010 $a0-203-90170-3 035 $a(CKB)1000000000253737 035 $a(EBL)180240 035 $a(OCoLC)437082855 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000246594 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11237237 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000246594 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10189720 035 $a(PQKB)10003391 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL180240 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10054261 035 $a(CaONFJC)MIL40713 035 $a(OCoLC)796028392 035 $a(OCoLC-P)796028392 035 $a(FlBoTFG)9780203901700 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC180240 035 $a(PPN)198463847 035 $a(EXLCZ)991000000000253737 100 $a19990607d2000 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n||||||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 10$aSkilled workers' solidarity $ethe American experience in comparative perspective /$fAntoine Joseph 205 $a1st ed. 210 $aNew York $cGarland Pub.$d2000 215 $a1 online resource (236 p.) 225 1 $aGarland reference library of social science ;$vv. 1412 225 1 $aStates and society ;$vv. 7 300 $aDescription based upon print version of record. 311 08$a1-138-98205-9 311 08$a0-8153-3336-6 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references (p. 203-223) and index. 327 $aCover; SKILLED WORKER'S SOLIDARITY; Title Page; Copyright Page; Table of Contents; Acknowledgments; Introduction; CHAPTER 1: Modes of Class Formation; CHAPTER 2: Pathways to Capitalist Democracy: What Prevents Social Democracy?; CHAPTER 3: The Formation of Class Fractions; CHAPTER 4: The Logic of Particularism: Creating Solidarism among Skilled Workers; CHAPTER 5: The Political Contours of Class Conflict in the Gilded Age; CHAPTER 6: The Limits of Particularism: Labor Solidarism and Social Welfare in the United States; CHAPTER 7: Homogeneous Labor and Class Formation; Appendix A; Appendix B 327 $aAppendix CBibliography; Index 330 8 $aAnnotation$bSkilled Workers' Solidarity is a comparative historical analysis of capitalist democracy, focusing on development in the United States and offering comparisons with other western nations. 410 0$aGarland reference library of social science ;$vv. 1412. 410 0$aStates and society ;$vv. 7. 606 $aLabor movement$zUnited States$xHistory 606 $aSkilled labor$zUnited States$xHistory 606 $aSolidarity$xHistory 606 $aComparative industrial relations 615 0$aLabor movement$xHistory. 615 0$aSkilled labor$xHistory. 615 0$aSolidarity$xHistory. 615 0$aComparative industrial relations. 676 $a331.8/0973 700 $aJoseph$b Antoine L.$f1951-$01872516 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910975036903321 996 $aSkilled workers' solidarity$94484543 997 $aUNINA
