Taking issue with dominant discourses which assumes children?s lack of agency, the book questions the epistemological foundations of childhood discourses that produce innocence. It examines the paradox between teachers? dominant narratives of childhood innocence and children?s own conceptualisation of gender and sexuality inside the classroom, with peers, in heterosexual games, in the playground and through boyfriend-girlfriend relationships. It examines the nuances and finely situated experiences which draw attention to hegemonic masculinity and femininity where boys and girls challenge and contest relations of power. The book focuses on the early makings of gender and sexual harassment and shows how violent gender relations are manifest even amongst very young boys and girls. Attention is given to the interconnections with race, class, structural inequalities, as well as the actions of boys and girls as navigate gender and sexuality at school. The book argues that the early years of primary schooling are a key site for the production and reproduction of gender and sexuality. Gender reform strategies are vital in this sector of schooling. 410 0$aPerspectives on Children and Young People,$x2365-2977 606 $aChildren 606 $aAdolescence 606 $aSociology 606 $aEducational sociology 606 $aEducational sociology 606 $aSocial groups 606 $aFamilies 606 $aChild development 606 $aChildhood, Adolescence and Society$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/X22090 606 $aGender Studies$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/X35000 606 $aSociology of Education$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/X22070 606 $aSociology of Family, Youth and Aging$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/X22080 606 $aEarly Childhood Education$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/O37000 615 0$aChildren. 615 0$aAdolescence. 615 0$aSociology. 615 0$aEducational sociology. 615 0$aEducational sociology. 615 0$aSocial groups. 615 0$aFamilies. 615 0$aChild development. 615 14$aChildhood, Adolescence and Society. 615 24$aGender Studies. 615 24$aSociology of Education. 615 24$aSociology of Family, Youth and Aging. 615 24$aEarly Childhood Education. 676 $a300 700 $aBhana$b Deevia$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$0853377 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910136600703321 996 $aGender and Childhood Sexuality in Primary School$92523072 997 $aUNINA
