As an adult she moved to Utah, back to Kentucky, to Arizona, and finally to California. Economic necessity primarily motivated Effie and her husband's moves, but her conversion to the Mormon Church in youth also was a factor. Throughout her life, she was committed to preserving the rural, southern folkways she had experienced as a child. She and other members of her family were folk musicians, at times professionally, and she also became a folk poet and artist 410 0$aLife Writings Frontier Women 606 $aAuthors, American$vBiography 606 $aFarm life$zKentucky 606 $aFolk singers$zUnited States$vBiography 606 $aLatter Day Saints$zKentucky$vBiography 606 $aPainters -$zUnited States$vBiography 607 $aKentucky$vBiography 607 $aKentucky$xSocial life and customs 615 0$aAuthors, American 615 0$aFarm life 615 0$aFolk singers 615 0$aLatter Day Saints 615 0$aPainters - 676 $a973.9 676 $a973.9/092 700 $aCarmack$b Effie Marquess$f1885-1974.$01231882 702 $aCarmack$b Noel A. 702 $aDavidson$b Karen Lynn 801 0$bAU-PeEL 801 1$bAU-PeEL 801 2$bAU-PeEL 801 2$bUkMaJRU 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910134709303321 996 $aOut Of The Black Patch$92860390 997 $aUNINA
