A great experimenter, tirelessly proposing and implementing new projects, his name is linked to the history of research into cosmic rays, which were, however, far from being his only sphere of interest. In 1987, the physics community in general, and in particular the circle of his colleagues and friends, decided to offer Occhialini a sign of their esteem and affection by organising a commemorative encounter for his 80th birthday. In view of the retiring and crusty character of the scientist it was decided to hold a Conference on other themes: a Seminar on the history of the European Space Agency, followed by a Round Table on the beginnings of the research into cosmic rays. Seen through today's eyes, beyond its delightful fascination, this also appears like an almost magical moment that brought together some of the greatest physicists, of international standing, in one of the most fertile periods of Italian physics. The Treatment of Distressed Banks / $rDewatripont, Mathias / Rochet, Jean-Charles -- $tReferences -- $tIndex 330 $aThe financial crisis that began in 2007 in the United States swept the world, producing substantial bank failures and forcing unprecedented state aid for the crippled global financial system. Bringing together three leading financial economists to provide an international perspective, Balancing the Banks draws critical lessons from the causes of the crisis and proposes important regulatory reforms, including sound guidelines for the ways in which distressed banks might be dealt with in the future. While some recent policy moves go in the right direction, others, the book argues, are not sufficient to prevent another crisis. The authors show the necessity of an adaptive prudential regulatory system that can better address financial innovation. Stressing the numerous and complex challenges faced by politicians, finance professionals, and regulators, and calling for reinforced international coordination (for example, in the treatment of distressed banks), the authors put forth a number of principles to deal with issues regarding the economic incentives of financial institutions, the impact of economic shocks, and the role of political constraints. Offering a global perspective, Balancing the Banks should be read by anyone concerned with solving the current crisis and preventing another such calamity in the future. 606 $aBanks and banking$xGovernment policy 606 $aBanks and banking$xState supervision 606 $aGlobal Financial Crisis, 2008-2009 606 $aFinancial crises$xHistory$y21st century 615 0$aBanks and banking$xGovernment policy. 615 0$aBanks and banking$xState supervision. 615 0$aGlobal Financial Crisis, 2008-2009. 615 0$aFinancial crises$xHistory 676 $a332.1 686 $aQK 640$2rvk 700 $aDewatripont$b M$g(Mathias)$0140528 701 $aRochet$b Jean-Charles$0140852 701 $aTirole$b Jean$060161 701 $aTribe$b Keith$0123243 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910964653503321 996 $aBalancing the banks$94336078 997 $aUNINA LEADER 02989nam 2200661 a 450 001 9910972356603321 005 20250502231017.0 010 $a9786613313676 010 $a9781283313674 010 $a1283313677 010 $a9789027278357 010 $a9027278350 024 7 $a10.1075/sihols.52 035 $a(CKB)2550000000049975 035 $a(EBL)784330 035 $a(OCoLC)297636857 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000539829 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11343320 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000539829 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10579909 035 $a(PQKB)10046091 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC784330 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL784330 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10509447 035 $a(DE-B1597)719179 035 $a(DE-B1597)9789027278357 035 $a(EXLCZ)992550000000049975 100 $a19890809d1989 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 00$aOtto Jespersen $efacets of his life and work /$fedited by Arne Juul and Hans F.
