It looks at the increasingly important topic of excellence in education, and the shift in focus towards the provision of programs to support talented students in higher education. It provides a systematic overview of programs for talented students at northern European higher education institutions (HEIs). Starting in the Netherlands, where nearly all HEIs have developed honors programs over the past two decades, the book explores three clusters of countries: the Benelux, the Nordic and the German-speaking countries. For each of these countries, it discusses the local culture towards excellence, the structure of the education system, and the presence of honors programs. In total, the book reviews the special talent provisions for nearly four million students at 303 higher education institutions in eleven countries. In addition, it offers an analysis of the reasons to develop such programs, a look into the future of honors education and a practical list of suggestions for further research. The Sirius Program assigned Marca Wolfensberger to carry out this research. 606 $aHigher education 606 $aEducational policy 606 $aEducation and state 606 $aInternational education  606 $aComparative education 606 $aHigher Education$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/O36000 606 $aEducational Policy and Politics$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/O19000 606 $aInternational and Comparative Education$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/O13000 610 $aHigher Education 610 $aEducational Policy and Politics 610 $aInternational and Comparative Education 615 0$aHigher education. 615 0$aEducational policy. 615 0$aEducation and state. 615 0$aInternational education . 615 0$aComparative education. 615 14$aHigher Education. 615 24$aEducational Policy and Politics. 615 24$aInternational and Comparative Education. 676 $a378 700 $aWolfensberger$b Dr. Marca V.C$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$0959085 801 2$bUkMaJRU 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910132252803321 996 $aTalent Development in European Higher Education$92172887 997 $aUNINA
