Emerging from the tumultuous political events of the 1840s and 1850s, the Civil War was caused by the maturing of the North and South's separate, distinctive forms of social organisation and their resulting ideologies. John Ashworth emphasises factors often overlooked in explanations of the war, including the resistance of slaves in the South and the growth of wage labour in the North. Ashworth acquaints readers with modern writings on the period, providing a new interpretation of the American Civil War's causes. 607 $aUnited States$xPolitics and government$y1845-1861 607 $aUnited States$xHistory$yCivil War, 1861-1865$xCauses 676 $a973.7/11 700 $aAshworth$b John$f1950-$0981279 801 0$bUkCbUP 801 1$bUkCbUP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910462728703321 996 $aThe republic in crisis, 1848-1861$92239753 997 $aUNINA LEADER 06135oam 2201069 c 450 001 9910131503303321 005 20260102090118.0 010 $a3-7639-4096-0 024 3 $a9783763940967 035 $a(CKB)3710000000446586 035 $a(EBL)2096527 035 $a(SSID)ssj0001557948 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)16183604 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0001557948 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)14818677 035 $a(PQKB)10991379 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC2096527 035 $a(wbv Publikation)9783763940967 035 $a(EXLCZ)993710000000446586 100 $a20260102d2015 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 00$aSpatial Dependence and Heterogeneity in Empirical Analyses of Regional Labour Market Dynamics /$fInstitut für Arbeitsmarkt- und Berufsforschung (IAB) der Bundesagentur für Arbeit, Norbert Schanne 205 $a1st ed. 210 $aBielefeld$cwbv Publikation$d2015 215 $a1 online resource (209 p.) 225 0 $aIAB-Bibliothek (Dissertationen)$v354 300 $aDescription based upon print version of record. 311 08$a3-7639-4095-2 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references. 327 $aPreface List of Figures List of Tables 1 Introduction 2 Geography Matters 2.1 Spatial Structure by Workplace - New Economic Geography 2.2 Structure by Residential Location - Urban Labour Economics 3 Spatial Econometrics 3.1 Introduction 3.2 The classical linear regression model - and looking beyond 3.3 Spatial autocorrelation: Mainstream models 3.4 Spatial dependence beyond the mainstream 3.5 Spatial Heterogeneity 3.6 Comments and concluding remarks 3.A Consistency and bias of estimators for ß 4 Persistence of Regional Unemployment 4.1 Introduction 4.2 Analytical Design of the Model 4.3 Data 4.4 Empirical Application 4.5 Conclusions 4.A Comparative Model Overview and Further Statistics 5 Forecasting Regional Labour Markets 5.1 Introduction 5.2 The Data and Their Statistical Properties 5.3 Regional labour-market dynamics: A sketch 5.4 Specifying a system of regional labour markets 5.5 Selection and inclusion of indicators 5.6 Forecast evaluation 5.7 Conclusion 5.A Exponent of divergence - simulation 5.B Figures: Development of forecast accuracy 6 Do They Run with the Pack? 6.1 Introduction 6.2 Data 6.3 Empirical design 6.4 Expectation formation: Evidence for herding 6.5 Social learning or joint adaption to news? 6.6 Is there an informational cascade? 6.7 Are sentiments more rational due to herding? 6.8 Conclusion 6.A Additional Information regarding the Survey 7 Resume Bibliography Kurzfassung Abstract 330 $aWarum sollen Regionen innerhalb eines Landes unabhängige Inseln sein? Are regions within a country really independent islands? Do economic relations and effects really have a homogenous, unique size across an entire country? These two assumptions are often imposed implicitly in empirical economic and social research. In his doctoral thesis, Norbert Schanne discusses how statistical methods can deviate from this unrealistic model structure through employing spatial patterns in both observable variables and presumed relations. Opportunities to improve our understanding of the economy as well as chances and perils in the application of such methods are demonstrated in a number of studies on aspects of regional labour market dynamics. 410 0$aIAB-Bibliothek ;$v354. 606 $aArbeitslosigkeit 606 $aArbeitsmarkt 606 $aArbeitsmarktdynamik 606 $aArbeitsmarktprognose 606 $aBeschäftigung 606 $aRegionalökonomie 606 $aRegression 606 $aSimulation 606 $aSozialforschung 606 $aStatistik 606 $aUnemployment 606 $alabor economics 606 $alabour market 606 $aregional labour markets 606 $aregional unemployment 606 $aregionale Faktoren 606 $aregionaler Arbeitsmarkt 606 $aspatial dependence 606 $aspatial econometrics 606 $aspatial heterogeneity 606 $astatistische Methoden 606 $aÖkonometrie 606 $aDissertation 615 4$aArbeitslosigkeit 615 4$aArbeitsmarkt 615 4$aArbeitsmarktdynamik 615 4$aArbeitsmarktprognose 615 4$aBeschäftigung 615 4$aRegionalökonomie 615 4$aRegression 615 4$aSimulation 615 4$aSozialforschung 615 4$aStatistik 615 4$aUnemployment 615 4$alabor economics 615 4$alabour market 615 4$aregional labour markets 615 4$aregional unemployment 615 4$aregionale Faktoren 615 4$aregionaler Arbeitsmarkt 615 4$aspatial dependence 615 4$aspatial econometrics 615 4$aspatial heterogeneity 615 4$astatistische Methoden 615 4$aÖkonometrie 615 4$aDissertation 676 $a331.12/0943 702 $aSchanne$b Norbert$4aut 712 02$aInstitut für Arbeitsmarkt- und Berufsforschung (IAB) der Bundesagentur für Arbeit$4edt 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910131503303321 996 $aSpatial Dependence and Heterogeneity in Empirical Analyses of Regional Labour Market Dynamics$92782396 997 $aUNINA
