Né à Cali (Colombie) en 1945, Rodolfo de Roux a d?abord enseigné l?histoire de l?Amérique latine à l?Université Javeriana de Bogota et la sociologie de l?éducation à l?Université Pédagogique Nationale de Colombie (Bogota), où il a été doyen de la Faculté des Arts et Humanités. Après avoir brillamment soutenu deux thèses en France, l?une en Sciences Sociales des Religions (EHESS, 1981) et l?autre sur l?histoire religieuse en Amérique latine (Université de Toulouse-Le Mirail, 1992), il est devenu enseignant-chercheur dans cette université à partir de 1992 et jusqu?en 2008, en tant que Maître de conférences puis comme Professeur de civilisation hispano-américaine.
