The book begins with a discussion of these topics at a theoretical level, defining and elaborating on core concepts: international crisis, interstate conflict, severity, and impact. This is followed by a discussion of the international system, along with two significant illustrations, the Berlin Blockade crisis (1948) and the India-Pakistan crisis over Kashmir (1965-66). The book then presents a unified model of crisis, focusing on the four phases of an international crisis, which incorporate the four periods of foreign policy crises for individual states. Findings from thirteen conflicts representing six regional clusters are then analyzed, concluding with a set of hypotheses and evidence on conflict onset, persistence, and resolution. 606 $aPeace 606 $aComparative government 606 $aPolitical science 606 $aWorld politics 606 $aInternational relations 606 $aPeace and Conflict Studies 606 $aComparative Politics 606 $aPolitical Theory 606 $aPolitical History 606 $aForeign Policy 615 0$aPeace. 615 0$aComparative government. 615 0$aPolitical science. 615 0$aWorld politics. 615 0$aInternational relations. 615 14$aPeace and Conflict Studies. 615 24$aComparative Politics. 615 24$aPolitical Theory. 615 24$aPolitical History. 615 24$aForeign Policy. 676 $a327.16 700 $aBrecher$b Michael$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$0137113 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910300504203321 996 $aA Century of Crisis and Conflict in the International System$92155964 997 $aUNINA
