While some have viewed them as "subgenres," mini-genres, or nascent film genres, Amanda Ann Klein argues that film cycles are an entity in their own right and a subject worthy of their own study. She posits that film cycles retain the marks of their historical, economic, and generic contexts and therefore can reveal much about the state of contemporary politics, prevalent social ideologies, aesthetic trends, popular desires, and anxieties. American Film Cycles presents a series of case studies of successful film cycles, including the melodramatic gangster films of the 1920s, the 1930s Dead End Kids cycle, the 1950s juvenile delinquent teenpic cycle, and the 1990s ghetto action cycle. Klein situates these films in several historical trajectories?the Progressive movement of the 1910s and 1920s, the beginnings of America's involvement in World War II, the "birth" of the teenager in the 1950s, and the drug and gangbanger crises of the early 1990s. She shows how filmmakers, audiences, film reviewers, advertisements, and cultural discourses interact with and have an impact on the film texts. Her findings illustrate the utility of the film cycle in broadening our understanding of established film genres, articulating and building upon beliefs about contemporary social problems, shaping and disseminating deviant subcultures, and exploiting and reflecting upon racial and political upheaval. 606 $aFilm genres$zUnited States 606 $aMotion pictures$xSocial aspects$zUnited States 615 0$aFilm genres 615 0$aMotion pictures$xSocial aspects 676 $a302.23/43 700 $aKlein$b Amanda Ann$f1976-$01515012 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910781417503321 996 $aAmerican film cycles$93750524 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01296nas0-2200409---450 001 990001140450203316 005 20240214125711.0 011 $a0295-5830 035 $a000114045 035 $aUSA01000114045 035 $a(ALEPH)000114045USA01 035 $a000114045 100 $a20030403a19859999kmyy0itay0103----ba 101 $afre$aeng 102 $aFR 110 $aafa ||||||| 200 1 $aRevue de droit des affaires internationales$dInternational business law journal 207 0$a1985, n.4- 210 $aParis$cLibrairie generale de droit et de jurisprudence$d[1985]- 215 $a30 cm 300 $a8 fasc. l'anno 300 $aTit. della cop 300 $aL'editore varia: Forum euroéen de la communications, 1990 326 $aPubblica 8 n. l'anno 430 1$1001000114050$12001$aJournal de droit des affaires internationales 510 1 $aInternational business law journal 606 0 $aCommercio internazionale$xPeriodici 606 0 $aFinanza internazionale$xPeriodici 676 $a341.75405 801 0$aIT$bsalbc$gISBD 852 $tCELDES_24 912 $a990001140450203316 948 $s875.8 958 $aGIU$bXIII.76$cn.4 (1985)-$l1988;1993; 959 $aSE 996 $aRevue de droit des affaires internationales$9976180 997 $aUNISA LEADER 01712nas 2200397 n 450 001 990008980500403321 005 20240229084442.0 011 $a0129-1831 035 $a000898050 035 $aFED01000898050 035 $a(Aleph)000898050FED01 035 $a000898050 091 $2CNR$aPT00083646 100 $a20161109a19909999km-y0itaa50------ba 101 0 $aeng 102 $aSG 110 $aauu-------- 200 1 $aInternational journal of modern physics C 207 1$a1990- 210 $aSingapore$cWorld Scientific 326 $aTrimestrale 452 0$1001000898051$12001$aInternational journal of modern physics C (Online) 517 0 $aPhysics and computers 530 0 $aInternational journal of modern physics C 531 $aINT.
