This volume compares British, German, Swedish and Finnish debates on revolution, rule by the people, democracy and parliamentarism and their transnational links. The British reform, although more about winning the war than advancing democracy, restored parliamentary legitimacy, unlike in Germany, where Allied demands for democratisation made reform appear treasonous and fostered native German solutions. Sweden only adopted Western political models after major confrontations, but reforms saw it embark on its path to Social Democracy. In Finland, competing Russian revolutionary discourses and German- and Swedish-inspired appeals to legality brought about the deterioration of parliamentary legitimacy and a civil war. Only a republican compromise imposed by the Entente, following a royalist initiative in 1918, led to the construction of a viable polity. 517 $aSprings Of Democracy 517 $aStudia Fennica Historica vol. 24 606 $aEurope$2bicssc 606 $aEuropean history$2bicssc 606 $a20th century history: c 1900 to c 2000$2bicssc 606 $aPolitics & government$2bicssc 606 $aPolitical science & theory$2bicssc 606 $aPolitical ideologies$2bicssc 615 7$aEurope 615 7$aEuropean history 615 7$a20th century history: c 1900 to c 2000 615 7$aPolitics & government 615 7$aPolitical science & theory 615 7$aPolitical ideologies 700 $aIhalainen$b Pasi$4aut$0867880 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910251390803321 996 $aThe Springs Of Democracy$92256011 997 $aUNINA LEADER 02101nam 2200481 450 001 9910815623503321 005 20200123084835.0 010 $a2-8062-5932-0 035 $a(CKB)3790000000017703 035 $a(EBL)2066187 035 $a(OCoLC)911001238 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC2066187 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL2066187 035 $a(PPN)233409637 035 $a(EXLCZ)993790000000017703 100 $a20200123d2015 uy 0 101 0 $afre 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 12$aL'Afrique du Sud divise?e au temps de l'apartheid $equand la se?gre?gation a force de loi /$fpar Marie Faure? ; avec la collaboration de Magali Bailliot 210 1$aNamur :$c50Minutes,$d[2015] 210 4$dİ2015 215 $a1 online resource (44 p.) 225 0 $aGrands e?ve?nements ;$vNume?ro 28 300 $aDescription based upon print version of record. 311 $a2-8062-5933-9 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references. 330 $a De?couvrez enfin tout ce qu'il faut savoir sur l'apartheid en moins d'une heure !1948.
