To highlight such dynamics, this volume offers a theory of economic ideas in political time. The author counters paradigmatic and institutionalist views of ideas as enabling self-reinforcing path dependencies, offering an alternative social psychological argument that ideas which initially reduce uncertainty can subsequently fuel misplaced certainty and crises. Historically, the book then traces the development and decline of the progressive, Keynesian, and neoliberal orders, arguing that each order's principled foundations were gradually displaced by macroeconomic models that obscured new causes of the Great Depression, Great Stagflation, and Global Financial Crisis. Finally, in policy terms, Widmaier stresses the costs of intellectual autonomy, as efforts to 'prevent the last crisis' have repeatedly obscured new causes of crises. 606 $aEconomic history 606 $aEconomic policy 606 $aEconomic development 606 $aGlobal Financial Crisis, 2008-2009 615 0$aEconomic history. 615 0$aEconomic policy. 615 0$aEconomic development. 615 0$aGlobal Financial Crisis, 2008-2009. 676 $a330.1 686 $aPOL023000$2bisacsh 700 $aWidmaier$b Wesley$01074801 801 0$bUkCbUP 801 1$bUkCbUP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910163917603321 996 $aEconomic ideas in political time$92581892 997 $aUNINA LEADER 00793nam0-22002891i-450 001 990007948660403321 005 20250924091714.0 035 $a000794866 035 $aFED01000794866 035 $a(Aleph)000794866FED01 100 $a20041112d1990----km-y0itay50------ba 101 0 $aita 102 $aIT 105 $aa-------010yy 200 1 $aScritti in onore di Lucio Croatto 210 $aPadova$cCentro di studio per le ricerche di fonetica del C.N.R.$dc1990 215 $aXVI, 296 p.$cill.$d24 cm 610 0 $aFoniatria 676 $a616.855 702 1$aCroatto,$bLucio 801 0$aIT$bUNINA$gRICA$2UNIMARC 901 $aBK 912 $a990007948660403321 952 $aCIRASS 79$fCIRAS 959 $aCIRAS 996 $aScritti in onore di Lucio Croatto$9746969 997 $aUNINA
