Though studies exist that seek to explain how people become trapped within violent relationships and what factors facilitate survival, escape and safety, this book provides fresh insights into this complex and multifaceted issue. People often ask of women in abusive relationships "why does she stay?" Critics suggest that this question carries implicit notions of victim blame and fails to hold to account the perpetrators of abuse. The studies described in this book, however, explore the question from the perspectives of survivors and represent a shift away from individual pathology to an approach based on the recognition of structural oppression, agency and resilience. Comprising eight chapters, new theoretical frameworks for the analysis of IPV are provided to guide practitioners and policy makers in improving services for vulnerable people in abusive relationships, and a range of studies into the experiences of a diverse range of survivors, including mothers in Portugal, women who experienced child marriage in Uganda, and refugees in the United States of America, generate findings which elucidate perspectives from marginalised and under-researched groups. 606 $aPsychology$2bicssc 610 $aadolescent sexting 610 $achild marriage 610 $achoosing own partner 610 $acodependency 610 $acrime 610 $acultural competence 610 $adating violence (DV) 610 $adiverse populations 610 $adomestic violence 610 $aeducational leadership 610 $aeducational policy 610 $agender violence 610 $agirls 610 $ahelp-seeking 610 $ahuman rights 610 $aintersectionality 610 $aintimate partner violence 610 $aintimate partner violence (IPV) 610 $aleave abusive relationships 610 $aleave or stay 610 $aleaving an intimate relationship 610 $aleaving violent relationships 610 $amother 610 $aorganizational cultural responsiveness 610 $aprison 610 $aprosocial adolescent behavior 610 $arefugees 610 $asex education curriculum 610 $astay in abusive relationships 610 $asurvivor 610 $ateen dating violence (TDV) 610 $atheory 610 $atrauma 610 $aUganda 610 $aUK 610 $avictims 610 $avictims of dating violence 610 $awomen 610 $awomen of South Asian heritage 610 $ayoung people 615 7$aPsychology 700 $aJones$b Adele$4edt$01323770 702 $aJones$b Adele$4oth 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910557582403321 996 $aLeaving a Violent Relationship$93035835 997 $aUNINA
