The book takes an issue-specific approach to investigating how ASEAN states and societies govern many of the pressing non-traditional security issues, such as climate change, food security, environmental protection, humanitarian assistance and disaster response, health security, nuclear security, and human trafficking and forced displacement. With non-traditional security as an established concept in the policy and scholarly communities in ASEAN, this book moves beyond securitization and focuses on capacity-building, regional cooperation and institutions for dealing with non-traditional security challenges in the region. Through the development of a comprehensive analytical framework that examines the processes of governing non-traditional security problems, the editors put together chapters that identify some of the major gaps and challenges in managing many of the pressing security issues in Southeast Asia. Non-Traditional Security Issues in ASEAN provides a systemic assessment of the state of governance of the most pressing challenges in the region. The authors analyse the ways in which particular issues are addressed at national and regional levels and by different stakeholders. In spite of the differences among various non-traditional security issues, the analysis of the chapters converge on three core themes for enhancing governance, which include engagement of multiple actors, effective enforcement of national and regional laws and regulations, and better coordination between different actors. As such, Non-Traditional Security Issues in ASEAN contributes to policy making by highlighting the key agendas that call for national action and promoting and deepening regional cooperation in governing non-traditional security. 606 $aNational security$zSoutheast Asia 606 $aHuman security$zSoutheast Asia 615 0$aNational security 615 0$aHuman security 676 $a355.033059 700 $aCaballero-Anthony$b Mely, $4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$01704153 702 $aCaballero-Anthony$b Mely 702 $aGong$b Lina 712 02$aISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute, 801 0$bUkCbUP 801 1$bUkCbUP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910815754603321 996 $aNon-traditional security issues in ASEAN$94089932 997 $aUNINA LEADER 00871nam0-22003011i-450 001 990004336990403321 005 20240410125458.0 010 $a416 79100 X 035 $a000433699 035 $aFED01000433699 035 $a(Aleph)000433699FED01 035 $a000433699 100 $a19990604d1973----km-y0itay50------ba 101 0 $aeng 105 $ay 001yy 200 1 $aApplied historical studies$ean introductory reader$fedited by Michael Drake 210 $aLondon$cMethuen$d1973 215 $aVIII, 280 p.$cill.$d22 cm 676 $a001.43$v21$zita 702 1$aDrake,$bMichael 801 0$aIT$bUNINA$gRICA$2UNIMARC 901 $aBK 912 $a990004336990403321 952 $a907 DRA 1$bI.st.r.c.711$fFLFBC 952 $aDEP. 907 DRA 1 bis$bST.MED.MOD. 6516$fFLFBC 959 $aFLFBC 996 $aAPPLIED historical studies$9486937 997 $aUNINA
