The underrepresentation of youth in politics fuels a vicious cycle of political alienation. Due to the low presence of youth in political institutions, their specific interests are not adequately represented and therefore policies important to youth are not implemented, which leaves youth with feelings of apathy and disconnect to the formal political systems. Through an original dataset spanning 52 democratic countries and over two decades, this book examines whether increasing youth representation in parliaments and government can disrupt this cycle of alienation and encourage higher electoral participation and greater satisfaction with democracy among young people. The findings suggest that while the effects may be moderate, increased youth representation can positively influence young people's political engagement and increase democratic satisfaction. This book offers insights for policymakers and advocates seeking to bridge the generational divide in political participation and is also an important contribution to the literature on youth political representation. 410 0$aSpringerBriefs in Political Science,$x2191-5474 606 $aElections 606 $aComparative government 606 $aFamily policy 606 $aSocial choice 606 $aWelfare economics 606 $aElectoral Politics 606 $aComparative Politics 606 $aChildren, Youth and Family Policy 606 $aSocial Choice and Welfare 615 0$aElections. 615 0$aComparative government. 615 0$aFamily policy. 615 0$aSocial choice. 615 0$aWelfare economics. 615 14$aElectoral Politics. 615 24$aComparative Politics. 615 24$aChildren, Youth and Family Policy. 615 24$aSocial Choice and Welfare. 676 $a324.6 700 $aKolodziejczyk$b Kamila$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$01803065 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910988394303321 996 $aBreaking the Cycle of Political Alienation$94349629 997 $aUNINA
