Extant are parts of his De Viris Illustribus, including biographies of mostly Greek military commanders and of two Latin historians, Cato and Atticus.$bCornelius Nepos was born in Cisalpine Gaul but lived in Rome and was a friend of Cicero, Atticus, and Catullus. Most of his writings--which included poems, moral examples from history, a chronological sketch of general history, a geographical work, Lives of Cato the Elder and Cicero, and other biographies--are lost. Extant is a portion of his De Viris Illustribus: (i) part of his parallel lives of Roman and non-Roman famous men, namely the portion containing lives of non-Roman generals (all Greeks except three) and a chapter on kings; and (ii) two lives from the class of historians. The lives are short popular biographies of various kinds, written in a usually plain readable style, of value today because of Nepos's use of many good sources. 606 $aClassical biography $vEarly works to 1800 606 $aClassical biography$3(OCoLC)863465$2fast 606 $aGenerals$3(OCoLC)939841$2fast 606 $aHistorians$3(OCoLC)957686$2fast 606 $aStatesmen$3(OCoLC)1131990$2fast 607 $aGreece$2fast 607 $aRome (Empire)$2fast 615 0$aClassical biography 615 7$aClassical biography 615 7$aGenerals 615 7$aHistorians 615 7$aStatesmen 700 $aNepos$b Cornelius$0180708 702 $aRolfe$b John Carew$f1859-1943, 801 0$bMaCbHUP 801 2$bTLC 906 $aBOOK 912 $a996199236103316 996 $aOn great generals$92362577 997 $aUNISA LEADER 03428nam 22006615 450 001 9910299781903321 005 20250413111136.0 010 $a3-642-39909-6 024 7 $a10.1007/978-3-642-39909-1 035 $a(CKB)3710000000269734 035 $a(SSID)ssj0001372539 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11890739 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0001372539 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)11304606 035 $a(PQKB)11234256 035 $a(DE-He213)978-3-642-39909-1 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC6312867 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC5586013 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL5586013 035 $a(OCoLC)894040081 035 $a(PPN)182098923 035 $a(EXLCZ)993710000000269734 100 $a20141025d2015 u| 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurnn#008mamaa 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 10$aBasics of Modern Mathematical Statistics /$fby Vladimir Spokoiny, Thorsten Dickhaus 205 $a1st ed. 2015. 210 1$aBerlin, Heidelberg :$cSpringer Berlin Heidelberg :$cImprint: Springer,$d2015. 215 $a1 online resource (XVIII, 296 p. 1 illus.) 225 1 $aSpringer Texts in Statistics,$x2197-4136 300 $aBibliographic Level Mode of Issuance: Monograph 311 08$a3-642-39908-8 327 $aBasic notions -- Parameter Estimation for an i.i.d. It collects the basic mathematical ideas and tools needed as a basis for more serious studies or even independent research in statistics. The majority of existing textbooks in mathematical statistics follow the classical asymptotic framework. Yet, as modern statistics has changed rapidly in recent years, new methods and approaches have appeared. The emphasis is on finite sample behavior, large parameter dimensions, and model misspecifications. The present book provides a fully self-contained introduction to the world of modern mathematical statistics, collecting the basic knowledge, concepts and findings needed for doing further research in the modern theoretical and applied statistics. This textbook is primarily intended for graduate and postdoc students and young researchers who are interested in modern statistical methods. 410 0$aSpringer Texts in Statistics,$x2197-4136 606 $aStatistics 606 $aComputer science$xMathematics 606 $aMathematical statistics 606 $aStatistical Theory and Methods 606 $aProbability and Statistics in Computer Science 615 0$aStatistics. 615 0$aComputer science$xMathematics. 615 0$aMathematical statistics. 615 14$aStatistical Theory and Methods. 615 24$aProbability and Statistics in Computer Science. 676 $a519.5 700 $aSpokoiny$b Vladimir$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$0768285 702 $aDickhaus$b Thorsten$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910299781903321 996 $aBasics of Modern Mathematical Statistics$92543294 997 $aUNINA
