The pandemic and near-universal lockdown have provided an ideal cut-off date for the collection of indices from reputable academic sources that cover the nature of these regimes, individual human freedoms, economic freedoms, the rule of law, human rights and media freedoms. The aggregated findings from the 20 individual indices provide comprehensive data to support original findings and the characterisation of societies in 45 European states. Admittedly, there are differences in the methodologies and samples among the indices consulted. Nonetheless, taken together they offer a solid basis for developing arguments concerning the diversity of regimes, governance and societies in Europe and drawing well-founded conclusions on the nature of society in various parts of Europe. Though the book?s main focus is on the Western Balkans, the region is put in a pan-European context. The issues of migration, minorities, global geopolitics, the crisis of liberal democracy ? they all play into developments that are specific to the Western Balkans. The book answers the question of whether the pandemic has allowed local regimes to strengthen their power and exert greater control over society, making it possible to formulate arguments regarding the future of Europe and its integrative processes. In closing, the book investigates Western Balkan regimes? reactions to the pandemic in the context of governance, society and state power, before addressing the question of whether the future of the Western Balkans lies in the ?liberal club?, or whether local hybrid regimes will become even more influential in the near future. 410 0$aEuropean Union and its Neighbours in a Globalized World,$x2524-8936 ;$v5 606 $aConflict of laws 606 $aConflict of laws 606 $aInternational law 606 $aComparative law 606 $aLaw$zEurope 606 $aConstitutional law 606 $aEurope$xPolitics and government 606 $aPrivate International Law, International and Foreign Law, Comparative Law 606 $aEuropean Law 606 $aConstitutional Law 606 $aEuropean Politics 615 0$aConflict of laws. 615 0$aConflict of laws. 615 0$aInternational law. 615 0$aComparative law. 615 0$aLaw 615 0$aConstitutional law. 615 0$aEurope$xPolitics and government. 615 14$aPrivate International Law, International and Foreign Law, Comparative Law. 615 24$aEuropean Law. 615 24$aConstitutional Law. 615 24$aEuropean Politics. 676 $a320.9496 676 $a327.40496 700 $aAndjelic$b Neven$0948247 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 912 $a9910522912903321 996 $aCovid-19, State-Power and Society in Europe$92588493 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03615nam 2200733Ia 450 001 9910975129103321 005 20200520144314.0 010 $a9780791487204 010 $a0791487202 010 $a9781417531219 010 $a1417531215 035 $a(CKB)1000000000447459 035 $a(OCoLC)61367715 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebrary10594692 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000145478 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11148285 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000145478 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10157563 035 $a(PQKB)11156044 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC3408365 035 $a(OCoLC)56066742 035 $a(MdBmJHUP)muse5978 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL3408365 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10594692 035 $a(DE-B1597)684511 035 $a(DE-B1597)9780791487204 035 $a(Perlego)2672392 035 $a(EXLCZ)991000000000447459 100 $a20021107d2003 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurcn||||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aElites, language, and the politics of identity $ethe Norwegian case in comparative perspective /$fGregg Bucken-Knapp 205 $a1st ed. 210 $aAlbany $cState University of New York Press$dc2003 215 $a1 online resource e (xi, 193 pages) 225 0 $aSUNY series in national identities 300 $aBibliographic Level Mode of Issuance: Monograph 311 0 $a9780791456552 311 0 $a0791456552 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references (p. 179-187) and index. 327 $tFront Matter -- $tContents -- $tTables -- $tAcknowledgements -- $tLanguage, Politics, and Modern Norway -- $tNational Identity, Party Identity, and the Role of Nynorsk in the New Norwegian State -- $tLanguage and Social Democracy in Twentieth-Century Norway -- $tThe Shifting Fate of the Sámi Languages in Modern Norway -- $tNorway Compared: The Case of Belgian Language Politics -- $tConclusion -- $tNotes -- $tBibliography -- $tIndex 330 $a"Why and when do linguistic cleavages within a nation become politicized? Using Norway - where language has played a particularly silent role in the nation's history - as a case study, Gregg Bucken-Knapp explores these questions and challenges the notion that the politicization of language conflict is a response to language problems. He shows that political elites often view language conflict as a political opportunity, placing it on the policy agenda as an effective mobilizing tool to serve their own nonlinguistic political ends. Although language-oriented interest groups may fight to achieve desired language policies, they are generally unsuccessful when their preferences clash with the broader objectives of political elites. This book focuses on understanding just how language policies emerge."--Jacket 606 $aNorwegian language (Nynorsk)$xHistory$y19th century 606 $aNorwegian language$xSocial aspects$y19th century 606 $aNorwegian language$xSocial aspects$y20th century 606 $aSami language 606 $aNationalism$zNorway$xHistory 615 0$aNorwegian language (Nynorsk)$xHistory 615 0$aNorwegian language$xSocial aspects 615 0$aNorwegian language$xSocial aspects 615 0$aSami language. 615 0$aNationalism$xHistory. 676 $a306.44/09481 700 $aBucken-Knapp$b Gregg$0895218 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910975129103321 996 $aElites, language, and the politics of identity$94354360 997 $aUNINA LEADER 06478nam 22007695 450 001 9910513582803321 005 20250730182200.0 010 $a3-030-93176-5 024 7 $a10.1007/978-3-030-93176-6 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC6828334 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL6828334 035 $a(CKB)20151376500041 035 $a(OCoLC)1290483947 035 $a(DE-He213)978-3-030-93176-6 035 $a(PPN)259385166 035 $a(EXLCZ)9920151376500041 100 $a20211216d2021 u| 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurcnu|||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aAlgorithmic Aspects in Information and Management $e15th International Conference, AAIM 2021, Virtual Event, December 20?22, 2021, Proceedings /$fedited by Weili Wu, Hongwei Du 205 $a1st ed. 2021. 210 1$aCham :$cSpringer International Publishing :$cImprint: Springer,$d2021. 215 $a1 online resource (456 pages) 225 1 $aTheoretical Computer Science and General Issues,$x2512-2029 ;$v13153 311 08$aPrint version: Wu, Weili Algorithmic Aspects in Information and Management Cham : Springer International Publishing AG,c2022 9783030931759 327 $aApproximation Algorithms -- Constant-Approximation for Prize-Collecting Min-Sensor Sweep Coverage with Base Stations -- Approximation Algorithm for the Capacitated Correlation Clustering Problem with Penalties -- Approximation algorithms for the maximum bounded connected bipartition problem -- An Approximation Algorithm for Solving the Heterogeneous Chinese Postman Problem -- On Stochastic k-Facility Location -- The Complexity of Finding a Broadcast Center -- An Online Algorithm for Data Caching Problem in Edge Computing -- Topical part: Scheduling -- Scheduling on Multiple Two-Stage Flowshops with A Deadline -- Single machine scheduling with rejection to minimize the weighted makespan -- Maximizing Energy Efficiency for Charger Scheduling of WRSNs -- A New Branch-and-Price Algorithm for Daily Aircraft Routing and Scheduling Problem -- Optimizing mobile charger scheduling for task-based sensor networks -- Semi-online early work maximization problem on two hierarchical machines with partial information of processing time -- Topical part: Nonlinear Combinatorial Optimization -- Streaming Algorithms for Maximizing DR-submodular Functions with d-Knapsack Constraints -- Stochastic Submodular Probing with State-Dependent Costs -- Bi-criteria Adaptive Algorithms for Supermodular Minimization -- Improved Algorithms for Non-submodular Function Maximization Problem -- Fixed Observation Time-step: Adaptive Influence Maximization -- Measured Continuous Greedy with Differential Privacy -- Topical part: Network Problems -- Robust t-Path Topology Control Algorithm in Wireless Ad Hoc Networks -- Multi-attribute based Influence Maximization in Social Networks -- A parallel algorithm for constructing multiple independent spanning trees in bubble-sort networks -- A Fast FPTAS for Two Dimensional Barrier Coverage Using Sink-Based Mobile Sensors with Min-Sum Movement -- Time Sensitive Sweep Coverage with Multiple UAVs -- Recursive Merged Community Detection Algorithm based on Node Cluster -- Purchase Preferences -Based Air Passenger Choice Behavior Analysis from Sales Transaction Data -- Topical part: Blockchain, Logic, Complexity and Reliability -- Multi-Window Bitcoin Price Prediction Framework on Blockchain Transaction Graph -- Sensitivity-Based Optimization for Blockchain Selfish Mining -- Design and Implementation of List and Dictionary in XD-M Language -- Reliable Edge Intelligence using JPEG Progressive -- A game-theoretic analysis of deep neural networks -- Energy Complexity of Satisfying Assignments in Monotone Circuits: On the Complexity of Computing the Best Case -- Topical part: Miscellaneous -- The independence numbers of weighted graphs with forbidden cycles -- Wegner's Conjecture on 2-Distance Coloring -- An Efficient Oracle for Counting Shortest Paths in Planar Graphs -- Restrained and total restrained domination in cographs -- An order Approach for the Core Maintenance Problem on Edge-weighted Graphs -- Fixed-parameter Tractability for Book Drawing with Bounded Number of Crossings Per Edge. 330 $aThis book constitutes the proceedings of the 15th International Conference on Algorithmic Aspects in Information and Management, AAIM 2021, which was held online during December 20-22, 2021.
