The questions along with their rabbinical decisions examine all aspects of Jewish life, including business, family, religious issues, and relations between Jews and non-Jews. Taken together, the responsa constitute an extremely rich source of information about the everyday lives of Sephardic Jews. The book looks at questions asked between 1492--when the Jews were expelled from Spain--and 1750. Originating from all over the Sephardic world, the responsa discuss such diverse topics as the rules of conduct for Ottoman Jewish sea traders, the trials of an ex-husband accused of a robbery, and the rights of a sexually abused wife. Goldish provides a sizeable introduction to the history of the Sephardic diaspora and the nature of responsa literature, as well as a bibliography, historical background for each question, and short biographies of the rabbis involved. Including cases from well-known communities such as Venice, Istanbul, and Saloniki, and lesser-known Jewish enclaves such as Kastoria, Ragusa, and Nablus, Jewish Questions provides a sense of how Sephardic communities were organized, how Jews related to their neighbors, what problems threatened them and their families, and how they understood their relationship to God and the Jewish people. 606 $aJews$zTurkey$xHistory$vSources 606 $aSephardim$zTurkey$xHistory$vSources 607 $aTurkey$xHistory$yOttoman Empire, 1288-1918$vSources 607 $aTurkey$xEthnic relations$vSources 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aJews$xHistory 615 0$aSephardim$xHistory 676 $a305.892/40560903 700 $aGoldish$b Matt$0957932 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910461136103321 996 $aJewish questions$92481985 997 $aUNINA LEADER 00933nam a2200265 i 4500 001 991000923359707536 005 20020507175933.0 008 970428s1973 it ||| | ita 035 $ab10776394-39ule_inst 035 $aLE01304381$9ExL 040 $aDip.to Matematica$beng 082 0 $a515.5 084 $aAMS 33B 100 1 $aGatteschi, Luigi$013588 245 10$aFunzioni speciali /$cLuigi Gatteschi 260 $a[Torino] :$bUTET (Unione Tipografico Editrice Torinese),$cc1973 300 $axiv, 417 p. ;$c25 cm. 490 0 $aCollezione di matematica applicata 650 4$aElementary classical functions 907 $a.b10776394$b23-02-17$c28-06-02 912 $a991000923359707536 945 $aLE013 33B GAT11 (1973)$g1$i2013000080901$lle013$o-$pE0.00$q-$rl$s- $t0$u4$v0$w4$x0$y.i10875384$z28-06-02 996 $aFunzioni speciali$979541 997 $aUNISALENTO 998 $ale013$b01-01-97$cm$da $e-$fita$git $h0$i1 LEADER 01093nam a22002891i 4500 001 991002513769707536 005 20040403154331.0 008 040407s1980 it a||||||||||||||||ita 035 $ab12933879-39ule_inst 035 $aARCHE-091348$9ExL 040 $aDip.to Scienze Storiche$bita$cA.t.i.
