Based on studies on the Danish North Sea, this book shows how observations from outcrop analogues, core and seismic data can be used to characterize the density, distribution and geometry of natural fractures in chalk and marl. Laboratory experiments on chalk samples reveal the controls on the geomechanical properties of chalk and thus on the growth of natural fractures. Finally, various modeling techniques are employed to investigate the mechanical deformation in the chalk structures of the Danish North Sea and to predict fracture distribution and geometry in the subsurface. An understanding of fracture density, distribution and geometry is essential for planning efficient fluid extraction or injection strategies and CO2 sequestration. This book provides the necessary knowledge. 410 0$aPetroleum Engineering, Sustainable Geoenergy Engineering and Technology,$x2366-2654 606 $aGeotechnical engineering 606 $aPetrology 606 $aRock mechanics 606 $aSoil mechanics 606 $aMining engineering 606 $aMathematical models 606 $aGeotechnical Engineering and Applied Earth Sciences 606 $aPetrology 606 $aSoil and Rock Mechanics 606 $aMining and Exploration 606 $aMathematical Modeling and Industrial Mathematics 615 0$aGeotechnical engineering. 615 0$aPetrology. 615 0$aRock mechanics. 615 0$aSoil mechanics. 615 0$aMining engineering. 615 0$aMathematical models. 615 14$aGeotechnical Engineering and Applied Earth Sciences. 615 24$aPetrology. 615 24$aSoil and Rock Mechanics. 615 24$aMining and Exploration. 615 24$aMathematical Modeling and Industrial Mathematics. 676 $a624.151 700 $aWelch$b Michael John$0334695 701 $aLüthje$b Mikael$01425514 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910742481803321 996 $aGeomechanical Controls on Fracture Development in Chalk and Marl in the Danish North Sea$93555941 997 $aUNINA
