The role played by archaeology in perpetuating this view, claims Magness, is particularly insidious, because it is perceived, rightly or wrongly, as providing "scientific" (and therefore "objective") data. Thus, archaeological evidence is frequently cited by scholars as proof or confirmation that Palestine declined after the Muslim conquest, and especially after the rise of the Abbasids in the mid-eighth century. Instead, Magness argues that the archaeological evidence supports the idea that Palestine and Syria experienced a tremendous growth in population and prosperity between the mid-sixth and mid-seventh centuries. 606 $aSocial Science$xArchaeology 606 $aIsrael$xAntiquities 606 $aExcavations (Archaeology)$zMiddle East 608 $aElectronic book. 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aSocial Science$xArchaeology. 615 0$aIsrael$xAntiquities. 615 0$aExcavations (Archaeology) 676 $a956.94/903 700 $aMagness$b Jodi$0974881 801 0$bMdBmJHUP 801 1$bMdBmJHUP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910456759003321 996 $aThe archaeology of the early Islamic settlement in Palestine$92219915 997 $aUNINA
